A Mozart Birthday Concert at The Marlowe, Canterbury
Celebrating Mozart
On the eve of Mozart’s birthday, the Classical Opera Company make their first appearance at The Marlowe Theatre.
Orchestra founder and conductor Ian Page will present two symphonies – one practically unknown, the other one of the pinnacles of the repertoire. Kozeluh’s Symphony in G minor is a fully Mozartian magnificent and fiery piece, which was published in 1787 but which is today scarcely known. The second symphony is Mozart’s own great Symphony No 40 in G minor, K. 550. The conductor’s 40th symphony, it is one of the most famous and popular pieces ever written. Marlowe audiences will have the rare opportunity to see it in its original version without clarinets.
In between the symphonies, comes the Countess Almaviva’s famous Dove sono from Le nozze di Figaro and two concert arias which Mozart wrote for the celebrated Czech soprano Josefa Dusek. The soloist is the award-winning exciting young South African soprano Sarah-Jane Brandon.
Bella Mia Fiamma: A Mozart Birthday Concert is at The Marlowe at 7.30pm on Thursday 26 January. Tickets are priced from £16 to £33.50 (concessions available) and are available from the Box Office on 01227 787787 or online at www.marlowetheatre.com
