Agent speaks: Jon Reynolds, Lettings Manager, Foxtons Streatham
It’s been one busy but enjoyable month since opening our Streatham office here on Streatham High Road. We’ve been overwhelmed by the response we have received. We’ve been letting property in Streatham for almost a decade, but with an ever-increasing demand for the area from tenants looking with our Balham and Dulwich offices, we felt it was time to permanently establish ourselves in the area to fully serve the residents
of Streatham.
Foxtons was founded in 1981 and has grown from a single office in Notting Hill to 28 offices across London and Surrey and it’s been a privilege to be part of this growth. I’ve worked for Foxtons for six years now, starting my career as a Lettings Negotiator in our South Kensington office before being promoted to Lettings Valuer in our Notting Hill office three years later. Naturally, I was thrilled when I was offered the chance to manage and open our new office here in Streatham.
This year so far has seen an improved sales market, which has in turn reduced the number of available properties for let as many landlords look to take this opportunity to cash in on their investments. Also, with many would-be buyers struggling to get the finance to buy, the numbers of tenants is rising whilst the number of available properties to rent is further reduced as many tenants stay put in their rental properties for longer. This is all clearly great news for landlords as rents have slowly begun to rise once again. So if you are considering putting your property on the market, arrange a valuation now as demand has definitely outstripped supply and prices are rising. Vendors can also take advantage of our 0% commission offer until December.
The good news for tenants is we have a wide range of rental properties on our books from one bedroomed flats for £160 per week to large family houses for £995 per week. We are letting an interesting property within Henry Tate Mews, formerly the home of the Tate & Lyle founder, which included a wing that was used as a convent.
We know that in an area where there are already many estate agents we need to work harder to attract clients. We are known for our proactive approach to the property market, our longer opening hours, in particular evenings and weekends, and our comprehensive marketing package, including our award-winning website Foxtons.co.uk. As a brand recognised across London we are able to bring a large pool of families to Streatham, as well as bringing young professionals into the area.
We’re feeling optimistic for the rest of the year having opened two new offices in North London, now here in Streatham, and two more are due to open before Christmas - a strong statement of our confidence in the future of London’s property market.

Please make sure that any contractors you employ to work on your property have had asbestos awareness training.
Asbestos awareness is mandatory for anybody who is liable to disturb asbestos while carrying out their normal
everyday work (see regulation10 of The Control of Asbestos regulations 2006).
The training will cover the following topics
a. The properties of asbestos and its effects on health.
b. The types, uses and likely occurrence of asbestos and asbestos containing materials (ACMs) in buildings and plant;
c. The general procedures to be followed to deal with an emergency, for example an uncontrolled release of asbestos dust into the workplace.
d. How to avoid the risks from asbestos, for example for building work, no employee should carry out work which disturbs the fabric of a building unless the employer has confirmed that ACMs are not present.
The consequences of disturbing asbestos in your home could be very costly, both financially and on your families health.
The law requires that your Building Contractor, Plumber, Joiner and Electrician has a minimum of asbestos awareness training.
