Beaufort Polo Club: Bumper season at Down Farm continues...

With the club games proving more popular than   ever, July presented a programme of polo which ranged from 2-goal charity tournaments to awe-inspiring high-goal tournaments such as The Prince of Wales Cup. The 6th annual Hope for Tomorrow charity day was the stage for the opening match of the 18 goal Victor Ludorum Duke of Beaufort’s Cup, for which a  300-strong crowd watched Rowley Rockers (Beaufort) take on Fleet Support Group. This was a match that had even the most experienced polo watchers guessing with eventually the Rowley Rockers going on to beat Fleet Support Group 9-8. The St James’s Place Charity Polo Day on the 23rd July was also a huge success with a substantial amount raised in aid of The St James’s Place Foundation and we thank everyone who was involved for their generosity.

On an international level, we witnessed the test match climax of the season, with the last of this year’s International Polo Test Matches played at Guards on the 24th July.  England took on Brazil in the 100th anniversary of the world renowned Coronation Cup. At the time of going to press, England were expected to play in their new team formation which led to them to an electrifying victory over New Zealand in the second test here at Beaufort earlier in the year.

As we move into August and the heady summer holidays loom in front of us, pop down to Beaufort to experience first hand the pure adrenalin and excitement of polo. Every weekend, Beaufort hosts a great spectator opportunity or for the more adventurous why not book in for a live polo experience. It is a fantastic way to entertain clients, galvanise employees and entice youngsters into the sport. It caters for all levels of experience and fitness and is run by some of the best coaches in the country. The day starts gently, with learning how to hold the polo stick and getting to grips with the basics of hitting. Once a firm grounding of the polo swing is established and after some practise on a wooden horse, then the real fun begins and you get to sit on a polo pony for the first time! It’s a deeply exhilarating experience as these ponies are simply incredible, highly trained, safe and amazingly responsive to the lightest touch. As the adrenalin starts to flow you realise its completely addictive and you will soon be lining up for your first chukka!
