Chiswick kids have a new safe haven to play in
Calling all younger readers: W4 Youth is for you. Set up two years ago by local mother Sally Chacatte, it exists for the young people of Chiswick and surrounding areas, and offers activities and a community for 11 to 19-year-olds living near-by.
Sally was inspired to start W4 Youth after her own experiences bringing up her children in Chiswick. It was apparent that somewhere was needed for young people to spend their spare time safely and, unsurprisingly, it has been an immediate hit: “Over the past 11 months, we have had 2,500 visitors to W4 Youth,” says Sally.
These visitors can participate in dance and drama classes, play football (with Chiswick Youth Football), or attend the Youth Club. And there’s always the option of simply meeting new people and having fun too.
At present, the group call St Peter’s Church Hall home. The space has been invaluable, however the intention is to build a base for W4 Youth to call their own. Sally has met with Ealing Council who are keen to support the cause, and plans are currently being discussed (proposed design pictured, above). It is estimated that this planning will take until May 2012, with the new site to hopefully open in June 2013.
It won’t be without some hard work first though. The W4 Youth team – made up of a dedicated group of local volunteers – have arranged numerous fundraising and awareness events, and will be continuing to do so over the coming months. The next is a talent evening on 10 September at Chiswick High School. Go along to show your support, and find out more!

What the members of W4 Youth think:
“I think it’s amazing how my Mum is changing things for the young people of W4.”
“My friends and I wanted somewhere safe and warm to go on Friday nights. Youth Club has given us somewhere safe to go although it’s not always warm in the Church Hall in winter. We also wanted to do drama and we now have a drama group on Wednesdays and me and my friends go to that.”
“The youth club gives us somewhere safe to be with our friends.”
“The youth club is the best and I love coming here with my friends
