Christmas Farmers’ Markets in Kent

Farmers’ Markets are always a great place to shop and no more so than at Christmas. With 40 around the county there’s one near you – so pay a Christmas visit this year 

 

Capel-Le-Ferne

Tue 21 Dec, 10am-12.30pm

Winner of the Best Farmers’ Market in Kent 2004, the Christmas market will be a festive affair. There will be Father Christmas, a nativity scene, and stallholders, organisers and helpers in fancy dress. The local WI. will be singing carols, and a collection will be made for Demelza House children’s hospice. Refreshment stand selling mince pies and a yuletide punch.

 

Cliftonville

Sun 19 Dec, 10am-1pm

Cliftonville's another of Kent’s award-winning Farmers' Markets, will be holding its Christmas market with seasonal panache. There will be Christmas music and Father Christmas will be making an appearance.

 

Elham

Sun 12 Dec, 10am-12noon

Elham Farmers' Market is always a popular and festive occasion with the local choir serenading shoppers with carols. The Rose & Crown will serve mulled wine and there will be lots of extra guest stalls selling gifts. Complete your visit with lunch at one of three historic inns (you can park in the high street or village square).

 

Hildenborough

Tue 30 Nov and 7, 14, 21 Dec, 9–11 am

Hildenborough Farmers’ Market takes on a Christmas theme from its last market in November and during its last three markets during December. Each week a local school will entertain visitors with Christmas music and carol singing and on 21 December there’ll be a special visit by Father Christmas plus mince pies and mulled wine.

 

Horsmonden

10 Dec, 9am-12noon

Horsmonden’s special Christmas Market (its last of 2010) will offer all sorts of seasonal treats for sale, including  savoury and sweet tarts, pies, pastries, luxury deli items, cakes and chocolates, sloe gin and cherry brandy. Gifts will include cards, candles, wreaths, ceramics and jewellery and the refreshments stall will be selling mince pies, mulled wine, tea and coffee in aid of worthy local causes. At the Village Hall in Back Lane.

 

Shipbourne

Gift and Craft market Wed 24 Nov and Wed 1 Dec, 10.30am-1pm

Farmers Markets every Thu, 9am -11am

Christmas will start earlier at Shipbourne this year with two extra markets devoted to gifts and local crafts where more than 15 producers will offer great Christmas gifts.

On 16 December, Shipbourne School choir will sing carols You can pre-order your  turkey, goose or game to pick up at our Christmas Market on 23 December and also enjoy mince pies and mulled wine.

 

Stansted 

Thu 2 Dec, 9–11 am

Christmas puddings and stollen cakes, wreaths and table centres, holly and candles, chutneys and preserves, quiches, meringues and pies will all be on sale, as well as apples and pears, dry-cured gammon and bacon, chops and local burgers with apple to tempt you.

 

Tunbridge Wells (Town Hall)

Wed 22 Dec, 12pm-6pm

Tunbridge Wells Farmers’ Market has built up something of a reputation for its spectacular Christmas market. There’ll be lots of themed and delicious hot food, mulled wine, Christmas carols, twinkling lights and more than 40 stalls offering everything from stocking fillers to meats for your Christmas dinner.

 

West Malling

Sun 19 Dec, 9.30 am–1.30 pm

The town’s Farmers’ Market changes its regular Sunday slot only once a year, to ensure shoppers can buy all their last-minute food, drink and gifts from local producers and suppliers. So do note that the Christmas market will be held on Sunday 19 Dec and not 26 Dec.

 

Whitstable

Sun 18 Dec, 9.30am-2pm

As well as the usual stalls of high quality meats, vegetables, bread, pickles, cakes and eggs, Whitstable has a new stall selling wines from Terlingham Vineyard near Folkestone and the market’s favourite chocolate and fudge maker is back just in time to stock up on your sweet treats. Other specials on the day will be extra small craft stalls for those last-minute gifts of hand-made jewellery, hats, hand knits and cards.
