Everybody's a poet...
WE'RE GOING ON A BEAR HUNT
We only featured Michael Rosen a couple of months ago, but with proceeds from this special event going towards the Little Angel Theatre, we just had to flag it up. The poet and performer returns to the theatre for a show full of word-play and hilarious action, where children can join in with poems, chants and songs, including the legendary Bear Hunt.
October 17, tickets are by donation and must be booked and paid for in advance via the box office (020 7226 1787)

With winter approaching, parents want to wrap their little ones up in the very best - so Crouch End, and Aravore Babies, is the place to head to. Beautifully made and incredibly soft, Aravore's (which means 'a piece of heaven') items all have their own particular charm and identity. Their essential collection includes gorgeous vintage knits, matching hand knit accessories and exquisite baby shawls and blankets. Each season new items are introduced into the collection, so there's no better time to pop by.

SOUND ADVICE
A new innovative internet and phone service offering legal advice specifically to young people is to be launched in Camden by The Children's Society. Lawyers for Young People will be available to all young people, but it is particularly aimed at ensuring the most vulnerable have a much better, easier route through to an appropriate legal advisor than is often the case now. The service is initially being trialled as a pilot scheme across three areas, including the London Borough of Camden.
Young people can call the service on 0800 092 0953 or email info@lfyp.org.uk
GET SET
A recent survey carried about Worlds Apart revealed that over 80 per cent of parents admit their children sometimes go to bed too late. So Ready For Bed Week (October 25-31) is here just in time, which encourages parents to take advantage of the darker evenings and make the time to focus on establishing a good routine. It also aims to help support the international charity Sleeping Children Around the World (SCAW), which was set up to provide bed kits for children in underdeveloped and developing countries.

HOPE FOR THE FUTURE
Almost 100 Islington school pupils and staff were recognised for their eco efforts at the council's first Green Heroes awards ceremony. Commitment to the environment and innovative ideas were celebrated at the ceremony, where representatives from 19 Islington schools were honoured. "The next generation will play a vital role in protecting the future of our planet, so it's wonderful to see so many young people following the lead of environment conscious staff and parents," comments Cllr Greg Foxsmith, Islington Councils' Executive Member for Environment.
HAVE A GO HERO
This year marks the 16th National Poetry Day (October 8), where readers and writers, young and old, will celebrate with the theme of Heroes and Heroines. All over London and beyond, children will be encouraged to show off their poetic flair and be creative for a day, celebrating heroes and heroines in verse, with events inspired by figures as diverse as Nelson Mandela, JK Rowling, Margaret Thatcher, David Beckham and even the local lollipop lady.

NET GAIN
Young people have been improving their skills on the badminton courts with free coaching sessions held at Finsbury Leisure Centre. The sessions, aimed at eight to 16-year-olds, are part of Heatwave, Islington Council's programme of summer activities for children and young people. Cllr Paula Belford, Islington Council's Executive Member for Children and Young People, joined in one of the sessions. She says: "Heatwave includes lots of free and low cost sporting activities across the borough for all age groups. There should be something that appeals whether young people want to improve their skills in a sport, or learn something completely new."
