Poetry by Christopher Hewett

My family moved to Dorset a couple of years ago from Hertfordshire, a pretty county in it's own right but Dorset has amazed me and inspired me to put pen to paper in the form of a number of poems.

A Green and Pleasant Land

This modern life is so full of strife and stress most all agree.
Then take all of your ills to those green Purbeck hills, relax and just set them all free.
It's a place in this land where the sceneries so grand that the view takes your breath away.
You look down from on high at the lane winding by on it's journey to Kimmeridge Bay.
It's to step back in time on this ancient coastline with it's cliffs all eroding away.
There's a fossil strewn beach within easy reach and rock pools where children can play.
It's a pleasure to be by this jewel on the sea, walk the paths from the shore to the land.
Where smugglers would hand their rich contraband to others who'd buy it tax free.
This spot on the whole is so good for the soul and there's much for the eyes to see.
So if you ever come here you'll enjoy it I swear.
Because it is where you'll most likely find me!.

A Dorset Winter

A winters scene in a valley green where countless fir trees stand serene.
There a river flows quite crystal clean to the fields of Avon just down stream.
From my lofty perch on the valley's crest with a Buzzards view east south and west.
I can gaze for many a mile I'd say from High Picketts Plan down to Christchurch Bay.
This landscape dappled white on grey still holds a beauty to display.
When Winter fades from Matchams lane and glorious Spring returns again.
