Polo kicks up a gear with a packed programme

What an exciting and incredibly busy month we have just had at the Beaufort Polo Club, once again our feet have hardly touched the ground. The month began with the final of The Arthur Lucas Cup, our first ‘Victor Ludorum’ of the season, ending in a sensational victory for Ludo Pailloncy’s HB Polo, beating Beaufort in a match that went to the wire.

‘Plum’s’ dinner dance, in aid of pancreatic cancer was another highlight. A fantastic evening of quality food and good wine with music from band 29 Fingers kept the 650-strong guest list rocking! Following the auction at the Beaufort and an additional silent auction, the magnificent sum of £109,771 was raised for a fantastic cause, so a big thank you to all that supported the event.

The country fair on the 18 and 19 was of course our biggest weekend of the season. The weekend impressed with a simply breathtaking Bernard Weatherill charity match on the Sunday, topped only by an enthralling International Test Match between England and New Zealand on the Saturday. On the Saturday evening W1 came to GL8 as London’s delightfully decadent Mahiki nightclub put on a triumph of tropical delights and evening party. Players, VIP’s and spectators alike partied into Sunday to top DJs sponsored by Mahiki Coconut.
Fashion was on the mind of many who attended, and outfits dazzled throughout the weekend. In conjunction with Sundays charity match, Bernard Weatherill launched their first ever ready to wear capsule polo collection. The range was an enormous success. Their polo shirt developed from a pattern used at the turn of the century and English silk ties with polo motifs proved most popular.

With barely a chance to draw breath, we turn to this month where we have yet again another action packed calendar. On July 2 we host The Prince’s Charities Foundation fine bone china, silver and glassware auction in conjunction with Wotton Auction Rooms. All proceeds from the sale will be paid to The Prince’s Charities Foundation.

Polo wise, attention moves to the The Prince of Wales Cup, a tournament that always yields excellent polo and climaxes on July 16. On Saturday July 23, The St James’s Place Polo Day in aid of the St James’s Place Foundation takes centre stage.
