St Ives Harbour Hotel - The Porthminster

What better way to celebrate reaching a certain ‘milestone’ birthday than being able to indulge in some serious pampering?!  I can honestly say that I couldn’t have been in better hands than when my family and I visited the St Ives Harbour Hotel (The Porthminster).  It has recently which has already undergone a multi-million pound refurbishment, with plans for more improvements.

My husband and I (with our two young children in tow) enjoyed an overnight stay at The Porthminster during the last weekend of September – when not only the accommodation and hospitality were unsurpassed, but also the weather!

From the moment we entered the hotel, we all found the staff to be very friendly and obliging – nothing really was too much trouble – which I know is not always the case when travelling with small children!  We were treated to a family suite with a breathtaking view over Porthminster Beach and the sumptuous luxury and light and airy rooms were better than at any other hotel we have stayed in.  The anticipation of my next-morning Spa treatment was high, but an early evening stroll into St Ives for supper thoroughly relaxed us and we all drifted off to sleep to the hypnotic lapping of the waves on the beach below our suite – perfection!

Saturday morning dawned and we enjoyed breakfast in the dining room, which also overlooks Porthminster beach.  Every detail considered and our breakfasts were cooked freshly to order and presented on sleek white china accompanied by the sublime elegance of the Robert Welch cutlery.  Breakfast was swiftly consumed and followed by my visit to the Spa in the hotel.

Access to the Spa for children is strictly limited – a wise move – as this allows guests to fully take advantage of the peace and tranquillity on offer!  At the allotted times, when children are very welcome, they are actively encouraged to enjoy the pool!  The leisure facilities are fabulous and – like the rest of the hotel – it has undergone such a transformation!  There is an indoor heated pool (complete with integral water jet – a huge hit with my children!), with loungers for spectators, a hydrotherapy pool, state of the art gymnasium, steam room and treatment rooms, where guests and leisure club members can give themselves over to some serious relaxation in the capable hands of the Spa team of therapists.  An hour later I emerged – not exactly a new woman – but certainly having made a brave attempt at becoming one!!!

Sadly, our trip to St Ives was over before any of us would have liked, but we will definitely be back!!
