Local charity the Surrey Care Trust will be helping to make royal history when its Swingbridge 2 boat joins the Queen and thousands of others for the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant.

On Sunday June 3, the largest flotilla in modern times take to the River Thames, with rowing boats, working boats and pleasure vessels of all shapes and sizes.

The Queen and other members of the Royal Family will be aboard the royal barge, the luxurious Thames cruiser, The Spirit of Chartwell.

It will also be joining a spectacular rowbarge, which is being handbuilt in Richmond to mark the Queen's 60-year reign.

Swingbridge 2 is a rather more modest vessel, a 30ft broad beam tug, one of two boats owned by  the Surrey Care Trust.

It is a dedicated workboat, used as a base for bankside conservation work on the River Wey, the River Thames and Basingstoke Canal.

Swingbridge will be based on the Basingstoke Canal in Woking in the spring, so will be taking a week out to travel up to London and then back again, via the River Wey.
