The lace effect - bridal trends for 2012
Blame the Duchess of Cambridge and that pesky younger sister of hers, but it looks like the royal influence is here to stay for another season.
Lace, long sleeves and illusion necklines are still in, but this time there’s a vintage twist as bridal fashion looks set to celebrate another famous royal and ushers in an age of Victoriana inspired elegance.
Expect to see tiered skirts, structured ruffles and raised collar necklines, sometimes all at once. Drama queens will be in their element. n
Trends for 2012
Get shorty
Whether it’s a cute 1960s style mini or a flippy, flirty hoop skirt, you’ll be raising more than just your champagne glass this season as shorter hemlines stay put.
Fringe benefits
Keep your wedding day look light, flirty and right on the pulse with this season’s flapper girl inspired styles. Rhinestones give gowns razzle dazzle and adding lustrous pearl detailing adds Gatsby-esque glamour.
The finer details
Embellishment is big news. bejewelled backs, crystalised cleavages and beaded bodices are the order of the day.
Gift wrap your love
Bows are back. Big bows, little bows, structured bows and floppy bows, whatever you fancy.
Add a splash of colour
Designers have washed their frocks in pale pinks, pastel blues and dove greys. Vera Wang has even released an all-black collection.
And what should guests wear?
The North East has plenty of great boutiques, such as Norma James in Corbridge who specialise in occasion wear and mother-of-the-bride outfits.
