Time to get back in the saddle

‘Take Back the Reins’ is being launched to persuade people into the saddle; courses are suitable for those who may have ridden as a child and are looking for a refresher course as well as people who have never ridden before. The scheme is an extension of HOOF, the Equestrian Legacy brand of the British Equestrian Federation (BEF), one of the first sporting governing bodies to present plans for a legacy of the London 2012 Olympic Games. Much of the legacy work has been made possible through funding opportunities from Sport England.

The scheme provides a series of weekly riding lessons designed to support the rider through the initial steps to regular riding. The programme is tailored to suit individual needs and the aim is for the rider to develop sufficient skills, whatever their starting level of ability, to be able to enjoy riding in open countryside. Along the way a participant should also improve their fitness and confidence as well as discover how accessible and affordable horse riding can be as a sport.

It is intended that the scheme will be rolled out to selected and approved equestrian centres and riding schools throughout the country in time for the spring. For more information about Take Back the Reins happening visit www.facebook.com/hoofride
