Why move to Darras Hall and Ponteland

It’s the haunt of footballers and, of course, their wives, regional celebrities, professionals and businesspeople and thousands of ‘ordinary’ folk.

Ask people across the North East where they would like to live if they won the lottery, and there’s a good chance that quite a few would say Darras Hall.

It’s a housing estate quite like none other in the region, with mostly
beautiful, detached houses that can cost millions, a range of quality shops, lots of greenery and nothing to detract from the peaceful haven where the well-to-do choose to live.

But you don’t have to be a millionaire to afford a house in Darras Hall and, between the estate and neighbouring Ponteland, there is ample choice for house purchasers of more modest means.

The two places, with names linked as inextricably as, well, strawberries and cream, rather than fish and chips, share much that attracts house buyers seeking anything from a small flat to a near-stately home.

The towns are within about 20 minutes drive of Newcastle and, for the regular jet-setting members of the community, ten minutes of Newcastle Airport.

Excellent schools, pubs, restaurants, and leisure facilities are on the doorstep and what isn’t available in Darras Hall or Ponteland certainly will be found in nearby Newcastle.

Darras Hall was founded by Joseph Whiteside Wakinshaw just over 100 years ago, who laid down the conditions designed to ensure that a quality standard of living was maintained on the estate. A book of bye-laws provides guidance and rules and an elected committee of 15 owners helps to maintain the presence of a country environment with an abundance of trees and hedgerows.

If comfortable living in a quality and cared-for location within very easy communiting distance of Tyneside is what you’re looking for, few places can rival Darras Hall and Ponteland.
