Win vintage Champagne for your celebration

By Herefordshire Life on June 21st 2010

Do you know someone who deserves to...
Win £1500 of Vintage Champagne

When celebrating a milestone, throwing a party or charity ball, it’s traditional to open a bottle of Champagne. The flavours, the provenance and, of course, the bubbles make an event into a real occasion.

Beaumont des Crayères, the renowned Champagne House which makes Tanners Champagne, is offering, through Tanners Wines, readers of Herefordshire Life and Shropshire Life the chance for a deserving person, couple, team or community to win 60 bottles of its acclaimed Fleur de Prestige vintage 2000, enough for 360 glasses. There are three runners-up prizes, each of a case of six bottles. So if you, or someone you know, is raising money for a good cause, celebrating an  anniversary or an amazing achievement let us know.

Beaumont des Crayères

The Champagne House was set up in the early 1950s by a group of vine growers from Mardeuil near Epernay in the heart of the Champagne region. Their name reflects their pride in their vineyards, Beaumont meaning pretty hill, and Crayères describing the nature of the  chalky soil. Today there are 250 growers in the co-operative, the majority owning only a few acres, and working to produce the best grapes possible.  According to the experts at Tanners, Fleur de Prestige vintage 2000 has aromas of honey, acacia flowers, butter and apricot jam. It is deliciously yeasty, toasty and biscuity with superb richness and length. Benefiting from several years in bottle to mature, it is perfect for drinking now but will also keep for a few more years.

A range of Beaumont des Crayères Champagnes including Tanners House, Spécial and Rosé and other party services are available from Tanners branches in Shrewsbury, Hereford, Bridgnorth, Welshpool and Llandudno and at www.tanners-wines.co.uk

I think my mum, Mary, should win. She has recently had quite a bit of bad luck and she is always such a rock to me and my family. Plus she has never won anything like this before (and she loves Champagne)....

I deserve to win the Vintage Champagne and here's why.
I work as a waitress in a stately home where I have waited on tables for lots of prestigious events, balls, parties and other celebrations. I have probably served more than £1500 worth of Champagne and haven't been allowed tasted a drop of it, all that champagne and not one drop! I once opened a 1940 Vintage bottle of Vueve Cliquot, served two glasses and watched the rest being poured down the sink. After this ordeal I really think I deserve to win this.

My husband and I recently celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. We had our girls with us and had fish and chips. It would be fantastic to have champagne to really celebrate the highs (and lows) of the last 20 years and the fact that we are still together.

I have known my close friend Jean for 25 years, her father died from his injuries, after being Knocked of his bicycle, 8 weeks later her mother died aged 65, her eldest daughter had a very bad car accident, and eventually recovered from her injuries. her youngest daughter had luekemia, the chemo made her ill, after a year she recovered, and 18 months ago gave birth to a beautiful son, although now she needs a hip replacement. All this time my dear friend Jean remains cheerful and positve. Her eldest son suffered for many years with very bad depression, and to date is much better. Whilst all these things were happening Jean is losing her eyesight, with a retinal problem, she is now registered blind, still she remains cheerful, and tries to be positive about the future. In April this year, after a very short but devastating illness her Husband died aged 57, she recently told he was her eyes, and misses him dreadfully. Jean loves a glass of bubbly, she truely deserves this prize, and she would have great pleasure sharing this with me, I visit often, having this prize would make my visit extra enjoyable, we would have a belated birthday drink together for her 50 something age!

I'd like to nominate my oldest friend, Yvonne, After a broken marriage, she faced years of hard work bringing her children up single handed & battling ill-health. She then remarried, happily, only for her husband to be struck down by incurable illness. She nurses him 24/7 & and also looks after her 92yr old mum, who has altzheimers. She also found time to be a tower of strength to me during MY husbands illness & death. She is ALWAYS cheerful & upbeat - an inspiration. I'd love her to have a special treat & she is partial to a champagne cocktail! Come to think of it, she's a bit like champagne herself - always elegant & always BUBBLY!

I would like to nominate my husband to receive this champagne as we have been married for 45 years - and he does all the food shopping as he is now retired, and is thrilled when he finds 241 item or reduced priced food in the supermarket - bliss!

My daughter will be 21 in September but she has had such a terrible year. She has a young son and her fiance has just lost his job so they have no money. She deserves the best birthday in the world but she'll have the smallest celebration ever. It breaks my heart, especially as she tries to stay so positive!

I would love to win this! Just to celebrate life, good & bad! But to toast a future....what ever it has in store for me. Life always looks better through 'champagne glasses'.

I nominate all my family and close friends....What a wonderful way to all get together and raise our glasses to toast absent relatives and friends and to wish everyone in the room, good health and happiness and a wonderful life. There is always a Birthday, Anniversary, Wedding, Christening or even Exam Results to give a toast to. This is a truly amazing prize to win to whoever wins it. Good Luck and 'CHEERS'.
