More Gloucestershire Old Spot X Large Black Piglets and the first Oxford Down Lamb !!

20th January 2011 11:36:23

Wilma's bacon is literally saved when she gave birth to 8 beautiful piglets early Tuesday morning!! We had started to think she would never get pregnant when just after Christmas her tummy started to look decidedly bigger and we thought maybe, just maybe she was in pig!! SHE CERTAINLY was! Luckily Dunc had decided to bring her into the farrowing pen a few days ago and she finally gave birth in the early hours of Tuesday morning! She is doing very well for a first time Mum and all 8 little piglets are feeding well and looking very strong and healthy.

Our first lamb was also born this week, slightly earlier than we had anticipated the little Oxford Down lamb is doing well, we have had to help out the Ewe by giving the lamb the occasional bottle as the ewe is a first time Mum and was a little unsure of what to do. Being a typical Ewe she hadn't wanted to claim the lamb as hers and it was a tricky process to work out who the lamb belonged to!! But we soon found the correct Mum and the pair are in their own lambing pen with a heat lamp and a plentiful supply of food and water.
