663 years of history come alive in 7 pieces of theatre in and around Leyhill

The Tale Valley Community Theatre, in East Devon, are locally famous for creating original drama based in the community for the community. Their latest production, ‘Leyhill’, was perhaps their most adventurous as they took over part of a private residence to create a series of theatrical backdrops for seven specific scenes. Audience numbers had to be restricted due to the size of the venue. Us lucky ticket-bearers were ushered round in groups of 16 to see ….(click for more)

Country house community theatre production almost sold out

The Tale Valley Community Theatre's latest production has almost sold out. Famous for producing orginal drama that is often scripted on local stories, 'Leyhill' opens this Wednesday. You can buy tickets at the recently-opened Payhembury community shop.

Wunderbar - St Matthew's Passion in a full cathedral

When I hear beautiful music, I don't necessarily need to understand the lyrics. And so it was that I was thrilled by the Exeter Festival Chorus' moving performance of St Matthew's Passion in the cathedral. Sung in the original German, and joined by an orchestra, they created a range of moods and atmospheres. In fact it wasn't one orchestra, it was two, for Bach wrote this piece to be sung by two choirs. With a soloist soaring over the top, this made for 9 part harmony at times ....

Sweet Honi 'n' Soul liven up Honiton!

Honiton's airy St Paul's hosted a lively concert this week to raise funds and awareness for two local charitable ventures. 'Sweet Honi n Soul', east Devon's only rock / soul choir, put on an up-beat performance with interpretations of tracks ranging from Coldplay and the Beatles to James Taylor and the Housemartins.

It's been a bumper year for apples and so we gathered with two other families to collect 1.5 tonnes and turn them into juice. We're lucky to have a cabinet-maker in the village who has made a simple, but effective, press that's powered by a car-jack.
