Details on how to enter the inaugural Cheshire Life Young Artist of the Year competition
Could you be the Cheshire Life Young Artist of the Year? This month we launch a new competition to encourage local teenage artists.
We know that our younger readers are a talented, creative bunch and we want to showcase your talents. Were hoping the competition will attract teenagers who paint or sculpt or make collages just for fun, as well as those who are so passionate that they regard art as a big part of their life. Dont be shy, we will welcome entries from teenagers whose work has never been praised, as well as from those who are already stars of the art department at school.
Please note the age restrictions: all entrants must be 13 years or over, yet under 19 on August 31st 2012. The judging panel comprises renowned artist Malcolm Croft, Fred Aldous of Manchesters premier art suppliers and three local art dealers: Martin Heaps, Robin Whitehouse and Bill Clark.
Head judge Malcolm Croft, from Bramhall, is a former award-winning newspaper photographer who taught himself to paint following a road accident which ended his career. His lively landscapes and vivid still lifes caught the imagination of collectors and galleries and his sell-out solo shows at galleries have led to him becoming a name in the Northern arts scene and farther afield.
He said: Im delighted to be involved in Cheshire Lifes new art competition for young people. Itll be fascinating to see what sort of work the budding artists of the next generation are making and I hope we see work in many forms, be it watercolours, oils, acrylics, sculpture or collage.
The winner and four runners-up will be invited to a prize-giving reception in the summer and each will receive art materials from Fred Aldous. Their work will be photographed and featured in Cheshire Life and the art will be displayed in a local commercial gallery.
