The Queen enjoyed a double celebration on her 84th birthday yesterday, as her horse Quick Reaction came in first in the fifth at Epsom Downs Racecourse.

Other highlights of the race day -the first of the spring season at Epsom -included the announcement of Ian Balding, the internationally respected trainer andfather of BBC Sports presenter Claire, as guest of honour for this years Investec Derby Festival in June.

It is such an honour to have been asked to be guest of honour, he said. I was very humbled when I saw the list of legendary figures in the sport that have done it before me.

The day also saw the unveiling of the new Investec Derby trophy (pictured with Raymond van Niekerk, sculptor Charlie Langton and Ian Balding).
