Horsehero.com founder, Fiona Price, is delighted to announce the launch of Project Walero.
This exciting and unique project will allow amateur eventer Fiona Price to share the ride on Nicola McGiverns Olympic ride, Active Walero (owned by Active Equestrian) with dressage Young Rider Susannah Coleridge Smith.
The project will last for one year during which Susannah is aiming for selection for the Young Rider Squad and Fiona is aiming to ride under FEI rules and see how far she can go!
Nicola & Walero hold a European Team Bronze medal and competed at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games.
Nicola says of her equine partner I cannot ask anymore from Walero but also he does not want to retire and is still a lunatic every morning to lead in hand. He is now a professor of dressage and it is a joy to see Fiona and Susannah learning so much from him. Walero has given me everything I could ever have wished for. He is a horse that truly when I look at him makes my heart ache.
Fiona Price is looking forward to fulfilling every amateur riders dream and will be sharing her journey into the world of dressage with us all. Whilst no stranger to the world of top level competition, having rowed at the Commonwealth games in her youth, Fiona is new to top leveldressage, having always preferred jumping to flatwork, so Project Walero is sure to offer a new challenge and a steep learning curve that will provide lots of insight and entertainment on film, on the leading video website www.horsehero.com.
Fiona says, This is just so exciting. After filming lots of dressage on Horse Hero, I started to fantasise about what it would be like to ride dressage at top level, which was a little surprising as my background and aspirations are in eventing! I filmed Nicola and Walero at the Nationals last year and Nicola told me in her interview that was the last Grand Prix ride for them as a partnership. I have adored Walero for years and plucked up the courage to phone Nicola and put to her the seed of the idea for this project. I can hardly believe its now happening. The reality is a lot more scary than the fantasy!
Young rider Susannah Coleridge-Smith who will share the ride on Walero with Fiona, is aiming for selection to the Young Rider European team in 2010. Susannah is a 19 year old student from Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire and is in her first year at Loughborough University studying Sport & Exercise Science.
Nicola's support for Susannah and belief in her ability has inspired her to try for Young Riders and she now travels home 2 -3 times a week for lessons with Walero. Susannah said, I am thrilled by the opportunity to ride this amazing horse and will do all I can to secure a place on the Great Britain Young rider team this year. I would like to thank Nicola and all the sponsors involved in bringing this wonderful opportunity about.
Project Walero is sponsored by Active Equestrian in conjunction with Winergy Feeds and Chiltern Equine Vets:
Winergy Feeds are supplying feeds from their Equilibrium range for Walero and are offering nutritional support throughout the project. Helen Walker, brand manager at Winergy said "WINERGY Equilibrium is delighted to be working with Walero, the team at Active Equestrian and Horse Hero. We're excited to be a part of this project and are very much looking forward to watching the partnership between Walero and his riders develop."
Chiltern Equine Vets will be providing ongoing veterinary support and Sarah Randall, founder & top sport horse vet shares her thoughts on the project Im really rather fond of the old boy and have known Susi since she was a little girl so was keen to continue my relationship with Active Equestrian. Its nice that Walero gets to stay in his home where hes very much loved and that he can compete at a slightly less demanding level as like many top horses, Walero wouldnt be happy to be retired to pasture.
Fiona will be documenting the project on www.horsehero.com with regular videos of training sessions and competitions, blogs and video postings.
