Get ready for the Furneux Festival on October 1 and 2.
25 years ago, the villagers of Furneux Pelham got together to create a community-based October Harvest Festival to raise awareness and money for the refurbishment and on-going upkeep of our amazing St Mary the Virgin Church, in the heart of the village.
Little did the founders know that we would go on to celebrate 25 years of uninterrupted festival success. The format has varied from year to year, but music, art, local produce, home baking and family entertainment have remained some ofthe cornerstones of the festival weekend.
To celebrate this special anniversary, we are bringing more to the festival than ever before. There will be a fantastic Art and Photography Show, a Furneux Pelham Deli in our new marquee, kids' entertainment and barbecue, as well as a bouncy castle, talent show, juice bar and beer tent.
We are also looking forward to a fantastic classic car rally on the main street and busking in the tent, to boot. Bill Collison, the well-known writer and restaurateur has promised to join us with a stall and there will be plenty of arts and craft stalls in the school hall and marquee. With so much going on, we're confident we'll keep even the most hardened village festival goer entertained.
The church will be heaving with local fresh produce, jams and preserves in the country store, so come and enjoy a hot drink and a slice of cake from the church cafe or enjoy a vegetable biryani or a burger and a cold beer as you roam the myriad stalls on show.
For the first time, this year the event will also have two evening events. A disco, barbecue and beer tent in the marquee and a Spanish evening in the school hall. And if that lot doesn't keep you busy and entertained, there's also a Scrufts Dog Show on the Sunday.
