Schoolchildren from Somerset have been invited to enter a design-a-poster competition this June and July (2011) to help promote a fruit and vegetable box service that encourages people to eat healthily.

Hundreds of schools from Bristol to Taunton and Minehead to Yeovil have been asked by Cossey Produce, a home delivery fruit and veg box service from Bridgwater, to submit entries.

Director of the company, Tony Clemence, explained: We would like schoolchildren to have a go at designing us a great poster that tells people what we do and why eating fruit and veg is important for our health.

The winning poster will be used as part of our marketing materials. We will also present the winning pupil with a fruit and veg box for their family and their school will receive two boxes of fruit for the children and staff to share.

The closing date for the competition is July 22 at 5pm. Entries, which must be no bigger than A4 size, can be submitted via email to helpdesk@cosseyproduce.co.uk or by post to The School Poster Competition, Cossey Produce, 177, Bristol Road, Bridgwater, TA6 4BG.

The winner and their school will be notified in September. All entrants will be expected to take part in publicity and the judges decision is final. No cash alternatives to the prizes will be available.

Cossey Produce delivers fresh seasonal produce, often grown in the area, direct to homes and businesses across the region. The company aims to beat supermarkets on price.

Tony added: Our excellent trading relationships with local and UK growers and suppliers, coupled with our ability to procure from around the world, allows us to offer the best quality produce at the most competitive price.

Each week, after we have chosen the contents for the following weeks boxes, we go online and compare a like for like shop with Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys and Waitrose.

We take an average of the four different shopping trolleys and compare them. We can then work out the saving people will make when they buy one of our large fruit and veg boxes during that particular week.

The team members at Cossey Produce are all experts in the supply of fruit, vegetables and salads with many years experience in the produce industry.

Tony continued: We deliver fresh quality produce to hotels, pubs, greengrocers, convenience stores, schools, colleges, outside caterers and homes in the area.

My three fellow directors and I have between us more than 100 years of experience in the industry including farming, distributing, wholesaling and retailing fresh fruit and vegetables.

Customer service is in the forefront of our minds and our customer service personnel know their stuff and will help and advise on all aspects of our produce and service. Quality control is the responsibility of everyone at Cossey Produce, we all care and want our customers to have the very best.

We have achieved a high level British Retail Consortium (BRC) accreditation. BRC is accepted as the industry bench mark in the distribution and sale of fresh produce.
