Here’s our guide to the festive markets in Essex that’ll get you in the mood for Christmas. These 17 Christmas markets are perfect for finding fun stocking fillers, unique presents and foodie treats
Be inspired by an amazing range of unique and vintage-inspired handmade designs at a number of events across Essex. On November 2 the fair visits Coggeshall , Great Dunmow on October 26 and over the border to Long Melford on November 16.
You can enjoy browsing for handmade gifts inspired by vintage products at over 30 stalls. The events are free to enter, and there will be tea and cake available all day.
From November 29 - December 1 this iconic property and attraction near Chelmsford will host a range of local producers who will be on hand to show you their unique crafts and gifts.
Father Christmas and other festive entertainers will also be popping up during the fair to create a wonderfully seasonal atmosphere with all the traditional sights, smells and sounds you'd expect at the most wonderful time of the year.
This fair is a great day out for the family. Take a walk around the beautiful grounds before enjoying the wares of a wide range of local crafters. There will be carol singers and traditional Christmas music to get you in the mood, and if you feel peckish, there's festive fare including delicious mulled wine and mince pies while the kids can enjoy some craft activities.
The fayre takes place on November 23 - 24. Entry is free but there is a suggested donation of £3.

The market will run from November 2 - 3. Entry is £6.50 for Adults and £4.50 for under-16s.
Maldon's High Street will come alive on November 28 with a special Vintage Christmas Fayre event. The Christmas lights will be switched on by the Town Mayor alongside late night shopping and a street market with choirs, music, hospitality hosted by the local shops and competitions.
The event opens at 4pm with the Christmas lights coming on then. Entertainment will be found on the big stage found next to All Saints' Church on the High street and Santa and his reindeer will also be in town.
Open seven days a week throughout November and December, the garden centre will be hosting the only German market in Essex. Germanic fare on offer includes bratwurst, sauerkraut, pretzels, waffles and the intriguing schokokusse treats. 20 other stalls will be stocking various yuletide gifts including cuckoo clocks, ornaments, candles and clothing.
There are also a couple of one-off nights where the market is open later than usual. Entry is free for the regular market which begins on November 7 running to December 23. It will be open from 10am to 4pm daily.
Shenfield has its own Christmas market in and around Hutton Road where you'll find lots of original gifts and food.
It's also offering a host of activities including a small stage with live music, local school and town choirs - and of course, Santa will be there with his sleigh. The market is on Sunday December 8 from 12pm to 5pm.
Markets have been part of the fabric of Great Dunmow since the town grew up under the Romans many centuries ago and there's no better market than that which celebrates the festive season.
The event is on November 30 and there will be a grotto, face painting, tea cup rides, late night shopping, craft stalls and more.
Artists, painters, crafters and makers gather in Wanstead to get you into the festive spirit.
Taking place on November 2 and December 7 from 10am to 4.30pm at Christchurch Hall there will be a fantastic selection of Christmas goodies and unique, one-off gifts to make the perfect present.
Run by the Rotary Club of Billericay Mayflower, last year the market raised well over £40,000 for various Rotary charities. In previous years the Christmas parade was led through the High Street by pipers ahead Santa on his sleigh, putting smiles on the faces of the hundreds of attendees.
From 11am until 5pm on December 1 there will also be stalls, staged entertainment and even morris men appearing for an impromptu dance!
This gorgeous countryside venue is usually a popular wedding venue but on December 1 it will be transformed into a Christmas wonderland for anyone to visit.
Last year it featured a farmers' market, Christmas crafts, street vendors and a visit from you know who.
Starting with Leigh Lights on November 29, the residents of Leigh-on-Sea are going to be treated to a packed programme this festive season.
The craft fayre - featuring an Elsa's Grotto - will run on December 7, there will be carol singers on Strand Wharf on December 14 and finally a Christmas Farmers Market to round it all off on December 21.
Made in Colchester is a collective of makers all from the local area and this December 7 they will be showing off their festive wares at Makerspace, 24 Trinity Street.
As well as the enormous selection of cards, jewellery, pottery, prints and textiles you could pick up, the cafe will be open serving snacks and drink perfect for the season.
They had their first ever general fair in 2018 and following its success they are returning to Langham for a festive fair this November 17.
Grab a mince pie while you take a look at what local makers and artists have to offer. There is free entry and parking.
Held in support of the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity, this fair will take place on November 23 and 24 between 10 and 4pm.
A wide range of independent retailers will be stocking a variety of items including gifts, homeware, jewellery, art, books, toys, gourmet delights and much more.

The street fair takes place on November 24, with the opening at 12pm before a selection of local performers create a wonderfully festive atmosphere right through to 5pm.

Ticket prices are £12 per peson and that includes one free train ride. Admission is £3 if you aren't booked to see Santa. The fair is on December 8 between 9.30am and 4pm.
