The weather outside might be frightful, but this Christmas you can warm up in Cornwall with an afternoon tea of festive proportions. We pick some of the best places to indulge this December
The holiday season is a great excuse to meet up with friends and family for a range of special events across the county. One of the tastiest of such activities is to sit down for an afternoon tea filled with sweet and savoury treats. Many hotels shake it up at Christmas with a dedicated afternoon tea menu just for the season.
In no particular order, we've found seven places around Cornwall who are putting on a veritable feast this Christmas.
The Greenbank Hotel, Falmouth
‘Tis the season to be jolly and there’s plenty of Christmas merriment taking place at The Greenbank Hotel this December. In the 2 AA Rosette award-winning restaurant a festive afternoon tea will be served throughout the Christmas season.
On the menu there is Instagram-worthy chocolate yule log, mince pies, a generous selection of festive finger sandwiches, and cranberry and orange scones with lashings of Rodda’s clotted cream. Indulge in a festive feast whilst enjoying the panoramic views across Falmouth’s historic waterfront.
Afternoon tea is £22 per person with mulled wine and teas/coffees inclusive.

Pentillie Castle, St. Mellion
Throughout December, Pentillie Castle will be hosting a festive afternoon tea with a roaring log fire and twinkling tree lights as the backdrop to the Christmas feast. Guests are welcome to take a winter walk in Pentillie gardens and woodland to work up an appetite ahead of their Christmas feast.
Festive afternoon tea is £27.50 per person or £35 with a glass of Prosecco or a gin and tonic. Advance booking essential with a minimum of two people per booking,
The Headland Hotel, Newquay
Cosy up in The Headland Hotel lounge this winter, as the fire is roaring and there’s a delicious festive cream tea awaiting you on the table. Think quintessential high tea with a magical sprinkle of Christmas.
The spectacular cliff-top location of the hotel means Christmas diners can enjoy uninterrupted views across Fistral Bay and beyond. Look carefully and you might even be able to see St Nicholas and his reindeer shooting across the sky!
The Carlyon Bay Hotel, Saint Austell
In the luxurious Bay View Hotel this Christmas there will be fantastic wintery sea views and plenty of seasonal treats to warm you up. Enjoy a selection of festive cakes and sweet treats alongside homemade finger sandwiches and freshly baked scones.
To truly round off the festive celebrations, enjoy your afternoon treat with a Christmas cocktail or glass of Champagne.
Royal Duchy Hotel, Falmouth
The Royal Duchy Hotel’s festive afternoon feast is available from December 1st and includes festive cake, mince pies and Cornish cream tea - that’s not forgetting the homemade finger sandwiches. Afterwards, head to the Champagne Bar for a post-tea tipple and a spot of cosmopolitan glamour.
Festive afternoon tea starts at £20 per person and served daily from 2pm – 5.30pm.
Penventon Park, Redruth
For some festive flair, why not book an afternoon tea for two at this luxury independent hotel in the heart of the county. Enjoy a selection of sandwiches such as roast turkey and apricot stuffing, followed by a selection of mini cakes.
