We round up some of the top destinations for an expertly mixed cocktail in Surrey
The Ascot Bar & Lounge
London Rd, Bagshot GU19 5EU
There are not many places that you can be supping a top-quality cocktail and bump into an England rugby star passing through these days but Pennyhill Park’s The Ascot Bar & Lounge is one of them, as the team are based at the hotel. Sparkling cocktails include the Alice in Wonderland (blackberries, passion fruit, mint, Velvet Falernum, Bloomsbury Brut) and the French 75 (Tanqueray, lemon juice, sugar, Taittinger Brut).
The Botanist
4-5, Town Hall Buildings, The Borough, Farnham GU9 7ND
“Curious libations with added botanicals...” The Botanist is a secret garden that has bloomed and bloomed across the country, including a spot in Farnham. You can even order a ‘watering can’ for sharing when visiting with friends.
Cattle and Cocktail
10 Station Rd W, Oxted RH8 9EP
A steak restaurant that specialises in cocktails? Sounds good to us. While the beef brings the brawn, there’s plenty of finesse to Cattle and Cocktail's Champagne selections – and they don’t shy away from throwing a little fizz into the mix of their cocktails either.
Caballo Lounge
11 High St, Epsom KT19 8DA
The furnishings at Caballo Lounge are as bright as the ingredients in their drinks. This is a place to sit back, relax and sup with friends – fittingly this Lounge with its crazy maximalist hodgepodge of interior styles used to be a furniture shop. Drinks include Raspberry/Peach Fizz, Winterberry Gin Sling and the Cherry Bakewell.
Komo
Weymead House, Millbrook, Guildford GU1 3YA
Komo is a great cocktail bar for live music. They also take their ingredients seriously enough to introduce coffee from the local roastery, Redber, into the mix. Not a coffee fan? How does a Hemmingway Special (Havana 3, Maraschino, pink grapefruit and lemon) sound?
The Long Bar
3 Alexandra Terrace, High St, Guildford GU1 3DA
As its name would suggest, taking centre stage here is a spectacular sweeping 120ft marble top bar. The Long Bar's cocktail list doesn’t quite give the bar a run for its money in length, but it’s extensive nevertheless. Why not try the Angels Share (Bacardi Carta Oro Rum, Apricot liqueur mixed with kumquats, lime leaves, lemongrass and ginger syrup)?
Red
105 Queens Rd, Weybridge KT13 9UJ
Red has long been a celeb haunt in a town used to famous faces, sit back and enjoy an Espresso Martini or Weybridge Iced Tea (5 white spirits shaken together with lemon juice and topped with Perrier Jouet), while listening to live music or the latest resident DJ.
So Bar
10 Brewers Ln, Richmond TW9 1HH
An intimate table service bar found off the beaten track down Brewers Lane near Richmond Green, So Bar certainly keeps the drinkers talking. Their Dark & Stormy and Kentucky Mule are particularly special, while a bowl of Jamaican John Thirsty should keep you and a few friends busy.
The Gin Kitchen
Punchbowl Ln, Dorking RH5 4DX
The Gin Kitchen is a distillery and cocktail bar nestled in the picturesque Surrey Hills. The drinks menu showcases their Gin and Rum made onsite and on Friday - Sunday be sure to match your drink with something off of the Tapas Menu or sample unlimited G&T's alongside a cracking Sunday Bottomless Brunch.
The Winterton Arms
Petworth Rd, Chiddingfold, Godalming GU8 4UU
The Winterton Arms is a country pub that takes its drink offering very, very seriously, the list of gins here is long enough to open a shop with. Cocktails like Purple Haze (Silent Pool, passionfruit, peach and lemon) mean there are adventurous flavours to explore.
