Whether you like your eggs poached, fried or scrambled, there are plenty of places for a hearty breakfast in Cornwall. We share our favourite places to start the day.

1. Sunset Surf Café, Gwithian

With its own surf school, hire and shop on site, this café is a hot spot for a post-surf breakfast. From pancakes to waffles and eggs with all the trimmings, there's plenty to sate the morning appetite. Breakfast can be enjoyed al fresco out on the decking when it's sunny, or nestled inside with the rain battering at the windows during wintry weather. Kick-start the day with a coffee from the Cornish Coffee Company - make ours a flat white please!

2. Charlie's Café, Tintagel

Charlie's Café was the winner of our 'Family Dining Award' at the Cornwall Life Food & Drink Awards and with good reason. It's a great place to take the family for breakfast before exploring the history of nearby Tintagel Castle. There's something on the menu to suit even the pickiest of eaters. We like to start the day with the American pancake stack with bacon and Maple Syrup; what a treat.

3. Olive and Co. Siblyback Lake

Whether you like breakfast to be a continental affair with a selection of tasty pastries, breakfast bars and cakes on offer to accompany your morning coffee, or a full on feast with scrambled eggs, sourdough toast, avocadoes, cream cheese, salmon and much more; Olive and Co. has plenty on the menu to sate your morning appetite. The only difficulty is choosing what to have.

4. Chapel Café, Port Isaac

How do you like your eggs in the morning? We like ours with a sea view. And that's exactly what you can expect with your morning cuppa when dining out for breakfast at the Chapel Café. Breakfast is served until 11.30am so drag yourself out of bed for a Full Cornish Breakfast. Also worth shouting about is the café's unique coffee made from a blend tailored especially for the Chapel Café.

5. Bush Pepper, Newquay

Fancy trying some a little different for breakfast? Head to Bush Pepper for a morning meal with an Aussie twist. Think kangaroo sausages, Bush Tucker breakfasts and banana pancakes, all made by Australian Chef and owner Chris Brookes. Vegans are also well catered for with a number of dishes on the menu to choose from, and we're not talking jam and toast here.

6. Cherry Trees, Padstow

Cherry Trees has a menu full of temptation. Expect Full English breakfasts with all of the trimmings, sweet and savoury pancakes drizzled in Maple Syrup and smoked salmon and eggs - it can be difficult to say no. But if you're on your best behaviour there are plenty of healthy options to choose from too. The vanilla chai porridge is our go-to when we want to eat clean. The majority of breakfast items can be taken away and enjoyed on the beach. We can't think of a better way to start the day.

7. The Rockpool, Gwithian

Grab a coveted table by the window or outside on the decking when it's sunny and enjoy a spot of breakfast overlooking the dunes. Breakfast is served between 9 and 11am and the menu includes 'The Full Cornish', smashed avocado and poached eggs, smoked Cornish kippers and plenty of vegan and vegetarian options too. Breakfast at The Rockpool should be a dreckly affair - so relax with fresh coffee and eggs whilst you soak up your hygge surroundings.

8. Fuel, Falmouth

Breakfast is an all day affair at Fuel - the clue is in the name and brekkie doesn't get much cooler than here. It's always full of locals which speaks volumes and the industrial décor with rustic furniture and colourful walls creates a trendy but relaxing atmosphere to enjoy your morning caffeine rush. Take a pick from Cornish banana pancakes, kedgeree, full English breakfasts or just a plain bacon or sausage sandwich. Sometimes that's all you need to get going in the morning.

9. Box & Barber Coffeehouse, Newquay

Box & Barber's passion for Australian surf culture is reflected in their fresh, all natural acai bowls and speciality coffee. They aim to be as sustainable and ethical as possible, sourcing their ingredients and Artisan coffee locally from Origin. Everything that leaves the shop is biodegradable - you won't find any plastic here. They serve a brunch-style menu all throughout the day inspired by their Australian travels. If you're looking for an eco-friendly bite to eat, Box & Barber Coffeehouse is the ideal spot for you. It's also dog friendly!

10. SEA SPRAY, Newquay

If you're searching for a relaxing spot with stunning views, Sea Spray is the café for you. The dog friendly, beach front café overlooks the famous Fistral Beach, offering great food without the massive price tag, as well as catering for all dietary requirements. The breakfast menu is served up until 11:30am and includes a fun twist, allowing you the option to 'build your own breakfast' starting with your base and adding all the toppings you want!

11. Bread and Butter, Truro

Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, B&B's amazing American pancakes stack served with a range of fruity and sweet toppings are guaranteed to help you start your day right. Made with free-range St Ewe eggs and Trewithen buttermilk, they're best enjoyed outside in the booths, with scents and surroundings of eucalyptus, hydrangea and a trough of herbs. With smoothies, hand-crafted coffee, granolas and abundance of cakes there is something to please everybody.
