Locals know the Tavern for a chilled out dining experience – serving up modern American-inspired cuisine and good beer. A testament to its yummy food, the pub-restaurant was recently awarded the Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide for the third year running. Yet not everyone knows that The Tavern also serve a top-notch brekkie! The breakfast menu offers the usual full English along with other favourites such as pancakes with blueberries and crème fraiche. If in doubt, make sure you try the eggs Benedict – the hollandaise sauce is a winner.

Montpellier Chapter

The high-ceilinged restaurant at the Chapter is filled with light on sunny mornings, making it perfect for a calm and food-filled start to the weekend. The great thing about breakfast here is that opting for the full English also includes a visit up to their delicious, fresh continental selection – which is usually stocked with ham and cheeses as well as freshly baked pastries, watermelon, pineapple and all the other things you would expect of a good continental breakfast. As the Chapter is a hotel, it caters for residents too in the mornings, so it is worth calling ahead to book.

This place gets busy for brunch at weekends and with good reason – so arrive early if you prefer a quieter start to the day. Aside from a tempting range of freshly baked cakes and pastries adorning the bar, the menu is packed with tasty brunch options – ranging from eggy sourdough bread served with bacon, avocado, tomatoes and a bottle of Tobasco on the side to ‘The Boss’, a sizeable full English served in a retro white and blue enamel tray.

Suffolk Kitchen

Nestled in the Suffolks, this cosy bistro makes a mean veggie brunch, in addition to a range of breakfast options for meat-eaters. Make sure you try the eggs royal - a toasted muffin with beetroot cured smoked Scottish salmon, Cackleberry Farm eggs and hollandaise sauce. There are often copies of the weekend papers to read while awaiting your food and the staff are attentive without being overbearing – so you don’t need to worry about running out of coffee.

Head to the Italian deli for home-cooked brunch in the heart of Montepellier. Soak up the morning sun and indulge in a spot of people watching at one of the street-side tables or sit upstairs and look out across Montpellier Gardens as you tuck into a cooked breakfast.

The County Kitchen

If you like your breakfast locally sourced then The County Kitchen is the place to go – with the majority of their produce coming direct from local farms and suppliers. Tucked away on Grosvenor Street (just opposite Real Burger), the café serves a great house breakfast complete with local old spot sausage and bacon. If you don’t fancy a savoury option, make sure you try the home baked Belgian waffles with hot salted caramel.
