One of Sussex’s fastest growing restaurant chains is reminding football fans they can get home deliveries from their Horsham branch.

And to mark the Euro 2016 competition Giggling Squid sent a selection from their takeaway menu to the Sussex Life offices today (Tuesday 21 June).

General manager Charlie Benson handpicked some of his favourite main courses on offer at the restaurant, including Thai classics beef chilli and basil gra pao, prawn pad thai, and koong prik Thai – giant prawns sautéed with ground black pepper, coriander root, crispy garlic and soy. The menu also features a range of vegetarian options, including bean spout noodles, vegetable pad khing mixing tofu with shredded ginger, spring onion and mushrooms, and a delicious vegetable green curry.

The meat in the beef dishes melted in the mouth, while the chicken dishes were rich in flavour. The cashew nut stir fry was a particularly good starting point for a newcomer to the cuisine – packed with taste and a lovely sweet sauce, but not too spicy. The koong prik thai proved a particular highlight with its meaty prawns served in their shell in a deliciously salty soy sauce. The much-maligned tofu in the vegetarian dishes soaked in the curry flavours while adding bite to the proceedings.

The selection was a perfect introduction to the Giggling Squid menu – which has developed over the last seven years from the opening of the first site in Hove’s Church Road by husband and wife team Andrew and Pranee Laurillard.

As well as Brighton and Horsham restaurants the Thai food chain now has branches outside Sussex in Berkhamstead, Billericay, Bury St Edmunds, Clifton, Esher, Guildford, Henley, Marlow, Reigate, Salisbury, Sevenoaks, Stratford and Tunbridge Wells.

And the menu is being added to all the time. New signature dishes include Stand Up Seabass – a crispy golden sea bass standing on its tail – and crying beef – a North East Thailand special of grilled sirloin steak with a very spicy dipping sauce.

At present Horsham is the only restaurant in the chain to offer its own delivery service – offering a free service within three miles. Other Giggling Squid restaurants, including Brighton, are linked to the Deliveroo service. Despite the long distance from Horsham the dishes brought to Worthing were still piping hot and fresh.
