Venue
Tariff & Dale sits in the quieter end of Manchester’s Northern Quarter as a fitting reimagination of the building (and the city’s) textiles and metalwork heritage. Tariff and Dale is a trendy post-industrial restaurant-barsand its name refers to the two streets joining at this corner restaurant.
Menu
Opting for an a la carte which manages to toe the line between comfort food and fine dining, Tariff & Dale offers well-executed mains and grills alongside gourmet sausage rolls and satisfying sourdough pizzas. The restaurant’s starters, such as Fillet Steak Tartare with Cured Egg Yolk, Bloody Mary Sauce and Toast (£8.50) equally reveal an intent to display both expressive and filling dishes. Tariff & Dale’s answer to the house burger is the Bone Marrow Steak Burger (£13.50), a tender and succulent cut hugged by a brioche bun, the usual trimmings and a sharp, delightful house sauce. The ‘Nduja & Piquillo Pepper Pizza (£11) provides a snazzy variation of the Diavola with a wonderfully stonebaked sourdough base: fiery, rich and moreish, this pizza hits the spot. Desserts are hard to resist with Chocolate & Whiskey Cheesecake with Chocolate Soil, Charred Orange and Orange Gel (£5.50) practically calling out to be devoured. This luxurious dish features a chocolate top layer with a subtle alcoholic tinge that is beautifully offset by the tang of the orange gel. The Sticky Toffee Pudding (£5.50) features a sumptuous toffee sauce for this splendid dessert.
Décor and ambience
Speaking to the building’s former life, the interior makes use of metal and logwood to construct an almost industrial, factory feel in both the upstairs bar and downstairs restaurant. Make no mistake though, the atmosphere is inviting and comfortable, with the restaurant featuring an open kitchen with a hydraulic fabric press from building’s original build.
