VENUE
A quirky restaurant and bar in a Victorian town hall building with vaulted ceilings and striking decor. The main bar is on the ground floor, restaurant on the second.
MENU
Cocktails – or ‘Emily B. Kingsley’s Curious Libations’ as they are called here – are a big draw. But once you’ve enjoyed a classic (a Lost cocktail) or a bespoke version (Found) tuck into their big, hearty menu which features familiar classics presented with flair. We enjoyed a juicy Josper chicken satay skewer (£6.95) and a cured duck breast salad (£6.95), followed by a huge wild mushroom linguine (£10.50) and a smoked fish pie (£13.95).
The dessert sharing platter was superb – generous portions of chewy berry meringue, sweet cheese with plum and an apple tart crumble. It was good value (£12.50) too, but wine is on the pricey side –two large glasses of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc totalled £21.10.
DÉCOR AND AMBIENCE
Like a huge brasserie: stylish, buzzing, lively music but already the locals have taken it to their heart and it feels like the place to be.

Excellent. Friendly, accommodating, helpful young staff who know about the food – and Emily’s cocktails!
