We pick ten of our favourite local food markets in Cornwall selling delicious Cornish produce.

BUDE

There's a Farmers and Craft Market every Friday (10am-3pm) from Easter until the last Friday in September. The market is held on the Green on the Lower Wharf alongside the canal and in front of a building housing craft workshops.

CALLINGTON

Callington Country Market is every Wednesday (8.45am-12m) in the Scout HQ, New Road Car Park with local food on sale and a fish van visiting for an hour every morning (8.30-9.30am). This is close to the Tamar Valley, for many years an area rich in local produce and now being appreciated once more. Produce can be ordered a week in advance.

CAMBORNE

Camborne is one of only 500 Fairtrade Towns in the world (the only other one in Cornwall is Falmouth) so it's not surprising that it has a thriving weekly produce market. Set up by a collective of food and craft producers, the market in Commercial Square on Fridays (9am-2pm) is an initiative to enable local food producers and farmers to sell their goods to the public.

CARNON DOWNS

The local community association at Carnon Downs near Truro took over the running of the produce market about a year ago and it has gone from strength to strength. It has around 30 stallholders from the area and even has a waiting list. Lots of lovely local produce and held in the village hall on the last Saturday of every month (9am-12am) except for the December market which is on the 15th.

FALMOUTH

The lovely people behind Truro Farmers Market have now set up a similar market in the pedestrianised area known as The Moor, Falmouth, on Tuesdays (9am-2pm). It's smaller than Truro but still has the lovely blend of stalls and a friendly atmosphere.

HELSTON

This is the 12th anniversary year for Helston Farmers Market which has around 40 producers from within a 20-mile radius of the town. It's held in the Old Cattle Market on the 1st Saturday of every month (9.30am-1pm). There isn't a market in January but there is a second December market, this year it's on 22 December.

PENDEEN

The small but perfectly formed Pendeen Farmers Market takes place on the first and third Saturdays of the month (10am-1pm) at The Centre of Pendeen which has a community café. There's a lot of homemade produce on offer including baked goods, pickles and preserves all from around the West Penwith area. It's also where organic produce from the Bosavern Community Farm is on sale.

TRURO

One of the oldest (set up in 1999) and certainly one of the best, Truro Farmers Market takes over Lemon Quay every Wednesday and Saturday (9am-4pm) to sell the very best in local produce. Standards are high - there's even a dress code for stallholders - and the stalls have green and white striped canvas canopies.
