1. Beck's Fish and Chips, Carbis Bay

This Cornish family business has been serving mouth watering fish and chips for over 40 years. Hot food is cooked to order and it is well worth the wait as the fish is sustainably sourced and the chips are freshly prepared.

Whether you want to sit in and enjoy a big plate of cod fillet and chips, or eat it straight from the paper on Carbis Bay beach, Beck's offers a service for both preferences. There is ample parking if you want to stop by on your way home, or a dining area to savour the meal indoors.

For those with a gluten allergy, Beck's serves gluten free batter every day and the fish is cooked separately to accommodate to specific dietary requirements.

2. The Coddy Shack, Looe

With a quirky nautical interior complete with starfish on the walls and buoys and lanterns hanging from the ceiling, The Coddy Shack certainly has a seaside vibe. On the menu you'll find crispy cod and proper 'chippy' chips which can be taken away to be enjoyed elsewhere, or devoured in the restaurant whilst watching live entertainment.

For those with a generous appetite, The Coddy Shack challenges the public with their 'Man vs Moby' competition - 2lbs of cod fillet, 2lbs of chips and 1lb of mushy peas. If you're gutsy enough to complete the challenge, your meal is free and your name will be displayed on the prestigious Coddy Shack leader board.

3. Harbour Lights, Falmouth

Only a few steps from the beautiful waters of Falmouth harbour is this award winning fish and chip shop. Harbour Lights was recently named as the 'Independent Fish and Chip Restaurant of the Year 2017' and they are very proud of their fish, especially as the cod is Marine Steward Council (MSC) certified. Visitors can tuck into generous portions of tasty fish and chips whilst admiring the boats sail in to the harbour from the dining area. Fancy venturing from traditional fish and chips? On the menu you'll find breaded butterfly king prawns, crispy calamari with sweet chilli sauce and Cornish cheese burgers.

4. Sanders Fish and Chips, Hayle

Perhaps home to some of the most upmarket fish and chips in Cornwall, Sanders is a newly established restaurant situated only a few steps from Copperhouse Pool and Hayle train station. Hop off the train and warmly welcome yourself to the region the true Cornish way: with a box of hot and fresh fish and chips with lots of salt and vinegar.

Alternatively, after a day well spent on Gwithian sands, you can be wined and dined with fish, chips and a fine bottle of white wine whilst sat in the restaurant.

5. Peckish Fish and Chips, Camelford

Peckish Fish and Chips put Camelford on the foodie map in 2011 when it won best fish and chips restaurant in the South West at the Fish and Chip Awards. The family business doesn't scrimp on quality with golden chips made from Maris Piper potatoes and sustainably caught cod and haddock from the Northeast Atlantic and Barents Sea.

Unwind after a day exploring the nearby villages of Boscastle and Tintagel, with a steaming tray of the catch of the day and a handful of mouth watering chips.

7. The Blue Fish Bar, Mawgan Porth

Situated on the River Menalhyl overlooking Mawgan Porth beach is the Blue Fish Bar. At The Fisherman's Chippy in the busy harbourside town of Mevagissey there is lots of seating upstairs for you to escape the balmy weather and enjoy the Great British tradition of fish and chips in the welcoming restaurant.

Flounders is renowned in Cornwall for its huge portions so make sure you're wearing your stretchy trousers before you tuck in! The chips here are cooked the traditional way in beef dripping and are best served with a crunchy cod or crispy cod bites. If you don't fancy fighting the seagulls you can always stay at home and have Flounders delivered straight to your front door instead.

12. Pirate's Rest, Penzance

We can't pop to Penzance without swinging by the Pirate's Rest for a fish supper. The chips here are made the true West Country way with Maris Pipers cooked in beef dripping. We like ours served with curry sauce and a buttered bread roll. The beach is just a short stroll away so you can enjoy your fish and chips Kernow-style with a dose of Vitamin Sea.

14. The Atlantic, Portreath

The Atlantic is run by a family in which fish and chips have been ingrained since the 1930s - so you're in safe hands. All fish is served with a generous dollop of tartare sauce and a slice of lemon. If you're here for a chip-only affair, there are five different types of chips to choose from on the menu. Make ours an old fashioned chip butty on white bread, served with a glass of fizz.
