No trip to Cornwall is complete without stocking up on traditional Cornish fudge. In no particular order (and with a little help from our readers) we pick 7 of the best independent fudge shops in Cornwall to visit

1. Granny Wobbly's Fudge Pantry, TintagelA renowned landmark on Fore Street in Tintagel, Granny Wobbly's is pretty hard to miss due to its colourful baby pink exterior and bunting hanging in the windows. The family business has been running for over 20 years and the fudge is hand made in the shop with five staple flavours always on offer: vanilla, maple and walnut, rum and raisin, butterscotch and chocolate. The shop also sells a mystery flavour each week.

2. Roskilly's Shop, St KeverneRoskilly's is a quintessential farm shop found on Tregellast Barton Farm in St Keverne. Along with an array of chutneys, relish, jams and marmalades, the shop is also famous for its cream organic fudge made from the milk of the farm's own Jersey cows. There are a number of flavours to choose from, including: traditional clotted cream, stem ginger, chocolate orange, salted caramel, white chocolate and praline. We'd like to buy a packet of each!

3. Myrings Fudge and Rock Shop, St Ives

Stepping into Myrings is like taking a step back into childhood as the shop is always packed with retro sweets, hungry shoppers and of course, lots of Cornish fudge. The fudge is made the traditional way using open copper pans and the recipes used at Myrings have been passed from generation to generation so you can rest assured you'll be getting an authentic fudge experience. There are over thirty varieties to choose from so we shan't list them all; you'll just have to take a visit to the shop for yourself.

4. The Cornish Fudge Shoppe, NewquayThe Cornish Fudge Shoppe has been keeping it in the family for many years and lots of customers return again and again to sample some of the finest fudge Newquay has to offer. Enjoy a bag of assorted flavours, or pasty-shaped fudge (can you get any more Cornish?). The shop is also renowned for producing some very unusual but tasty flavours with cherry, 'choc o' bean', Vimto and peanut butter known to make an appearance behind the counter.

5. Buttermilk, Port Isaac, PadstowButtermilk is born and bred in Cornwall. What started as a humble shop in Padstow (which is still going today) has expanded to Port Isaac and online so you can get delicious Cornish fudge delivered straight to your front door. Despite its great success, Buttermilk continues to make its fudge in store by craft confectioners ensuring you still get the authentic homemade crumbly taste that makes Cornish fudge so tasty.

6. Fudge and More, St MawesSituated on Kings Road overlooking the turquoise sea and rolling green scenery of St Mawes, Fudge and More has a reputation for some of the best fudge (and ice cream) in Cornwall. From traditional clotted cream and vanilla, to cappuccino and lemon meringue, there are plenty of flavours on offer to sate the appetite of any fudge aficionado.

7. Middletons of FoweyYet another family run fudge shop in Cornwall (we're so proud of our independents); no real trip to Fowey is complete without popping into Middletons to stock up on crumbly Cornish fudge. Inside you'll find rows upon rows of fudge on the shelves - the only difficulty is choosing what to have.
