Introducing… Adelfia Restaurant in Buckhurst Hill
- Credit: Archant
Where did the inspiration come from when you created Adelfia?
We only opened in September and it has been really exciting to see the family business coming together. So far I believe we have been received really well. It was my childhood dream to open a restaurant and a lot of elements came together to make this opportunity happen for me, so it was really good timing. Food is my passion, whether at home or work. I constantly thrive on testing a combination of tastes that work fantastically together. Ever since a young age, I have always wanted to create a place with good food, a warm ambience and, most of all, impeccable service.
What’s your favourite dish on the menu?
It has to be our kleftico, which is slowly cooked lamb shank and roasted vegetables, with beautiful sauces. It is very delicious.
What inspires your menu writing?
My inspirations come from my Mediterranean background and it has a big influence on my food, combined with many signature dishes from Greece, as well as Italy and France. I am a great believer in buying fresh, carefully-picked ingredients and the dish can simply speak for itself. I will make sure we will constantly be exploring new dishes and making them our specials of the day.
How would you encourage new customers to experience your restaurant?
- 1 7 autumn walks in Kent to delight the senses
- 2 12 historic village churches in Cheshire
- 3 20 of the best places to eat out in St Ives
- 4 20 of the best restaurants in Hertfordshire
- 5 6 waterfall walks in Derbyshire and the Peak District
- 6 Meet Maggie, GBBO's 70-year-old contestant from Dorset
- 7 Try this pretty, circular coastal walk at the Chidham Peninsula
- 8 9 of the best places for coffee across Cornwall
- 9 5 great walks in and around Kendal
- 10 20 of the best restaurants in Essex
We have worked as a family unit to create an ambience that offers character, warmth, attractiveness and most importantly makes the customer feel invited. I believe we now have a team of highly experienced servicemen who work extremely well together to ensure the customer is always made to feel like they have had a true Mediterranean experience. We source our ingredients from prime markets and everything on the menu is freshly homemade every day, from our sun-dried tomato bread to the panna cotta with fresh berries compote and crispy biscuits.
Do you have any special events coming up?
From October we will be offering a new Sunday roast and an afternoon tea menu.
How is your restaurant different to any other in West Essex?
You will have to come down and see for yourselves! We like to be known for creating dishes with the best picked ingredients in the market, combined with a warm ambience and passionate service, which I think is very important.
