Dewlay, Garstang

Lockdown deliveries have been a hit from Garstang cheesemaker Dewlay, which has earned a reputation for producing the very best Lancashire cheese. Customers and passers-by are invited to watch the traditional hand-crafted cheese-making process on site, and have a nosy around the shop for cheese, biscuits, crackers and chutneys. The cheesey toaster slices are simply superb.

Mrs Kirkham’s, Goosnargh

Mrs Kirkham’s is a fantastic and award-winning third-generation farm-made raw cow’s milk Lancashire cheese (the last of its kind), made using the rich creamy milk of their Holstein Friesian herd. The traditional cheese is ivory yellow in colour with a rich buttery crumble.

Singletons & Co, Longridge

This award-winning cheese, which includes the heritage range of ‘Parlick’ sheep’s milk cheese, ‘Beacon Fell’ traditional Lancashire PDO and ‘Forest of Bowland’ cheddar, has rave reviews from a loyal band of fans. The cheese is handcrafted at the dairy in Longridge, using generations of expertise, and shipped for enjoyment all over the world. Butlers Farmhouse Cheeses, Inglewhite

Arguably the best organic cheese in Lancashire, this small family-run dairy is popular with cheese fanatics. Leagram Organic Dairy in Chipping was the first place Lancashire cheese was made commercially and its range now includes fruity and savoury Lancashires as well as a mild cheddar, buttery Double Gloucester, a smooth Red Leicester and a handful of creamy goat’s and sheep’s milk cheeses.
