Whether it’s creamy, tasty or crumbly you prefer, these Lancashire cheese producers won’t let you down
Lockdown deliveries have been a hit from Garstang cheesemaker Dewlay, which has earned a reputation for producing the very best Lancashire cheese. Customers and passers-by are invited to watch the traditional hand-crafted cheese-making process on site, and have a nosy around the shop for cheese, biscuits, crackers and chutneys. The cheesey toaster slices are simply superb.
Mrs Kirkham’s, Goosnargh
Mrs Kirkham’s is a fantastic and award-winning third-generation farm-made raw cow’s milk Lancashire cheese (the last of its kind), made using the rich creamy milk of their Holstein Friesian herd. The traditional cheese is ivory yellow in colour with a rich buttery crumble.

Leagram Organic Dairy, Chipping
Arguably the best organic cheese in Lancashire, this small family-run dairy is popular with cheese fanatics. Leagram Organic Dairy in Chipping was the first place Lancashire cheese was made commercially and its range now includes fruity and savoury Lancashires as well as a mild cheddar, buttery Double Gloucester, a smooth Red Leicester and a handful of creamy goat’s and sheep’s milk cheeses.
JJ Sandham, Barton
The most common word used when talking about JJ Sandham is ‘delicious’. The Barton-based family dairy, which has been in business since 1929, produces all three traditional Lancashire recipes which should appear on every cheese board: creamy, tasty and crumbly.
