This is all about the joy of drinking real ale in a real pub (or maybe a glass of wine from an expertly picked list). The winner of this category will need to stock local ales, have an inventive wine list and will know exactly what is required to keep the regulars coming back. Here are your finalists for 2017

“It’s a huge honour as it is our customers who have nominated us,” says general manager Gareth Phillips. “Their recognition of the teams commitment to serving our unique modern British barbecue in a relaxed, fun environment is a massive high-five to everybody who works here. From the slow smoked ribs, to the innovative cocktail list, The White Hart is our vision of the modern country pub, and to be recognised by so many people who return so often is a real honour.”

“There’s no pub like Botley Hill and we’re delighted to be in the finals,” says owner Nicole Joubert. “The 16th century building has great character, with low beams, twinkling candles and log fires. We’re located high on the North Downs so the views, and sunsets, are amazing. As you’d expect from a great pub, we offer a fresh, seasonal menu and wide selection of drinks including local ales and our very own Titsey Brewing Company beer, Gower Wolf, which is brewed here at the farmhouse.”

“On behalf of myself and the team we are delighted to be nominated,” says operations director, Mark Williams. “It’s a huge testament to the hard work and passion shown by Danni, Kevin and the team. We like to keep things simple and let the quality of our food and drink speak for itself. We believe that using fresh ingredients that have travelled as little distance helps ensure our food consistently tastes great and we’re proud to serve, such a wide range of locally-brewed ales.”
