We all love a good cup of coffee, whether it’s a latte, flat white or just plain black; Suffolk is home to a multitude of wonderful local coffee shops.

Here are 11 of our favourites with no chains in sight!

1. River View Café, Snape Maltings

In addition to a concert hall, galleries and shops, the pretty arts complex on the River Alde is also home to River View Café that has wonderful views over the landscape.

Recognised by the Suffolk Food and Drinks Awards for its use of local produce, the café offers a tempting range of brunch options and enjoys beautiful views overlooking the House and Gardens.


2. Applaud Coffee, Ipswich

Decked out with reclaimed vintage furniture, Applaud Coffee serves award-winning locally roasted coffee in a creative, cosy environment.

Run by sisters Hannah and Beth, the shop serves a variety of homemade cakes, brunch and lunch with a menu that changes seasonally to make use of the best local produce and ingredients. They hold regular classes for everything from Lino printing to paper cutting workshops, so you can get crafty as you sip your coffee.


3. Aldeburgh Market, Aldeburgh

Aldeburgh Market is a local foodie hot spot recommended by the Michelin Guide with a deli, greengrocer and fishmonger in addition to its café.

If you stop by for a highly-recommended coffee, make sure you have time to try out the delicious home-baked cakes and if you get the chance try to snag a couple of seats by the bay windows to enjoy views of the bustling little street outside.


4. Arlingtons, Ipswich

Head to the Grade II listed, former Ipswich Museum, Arlingtons for coffee, pastries and a flick through the daily papers. Taking inspiration from both French and British cuisine, the relaxed brasserie serves food throughout the day - including the quintessentially English afternoon tea and a morning coffee fix.

The café space is lively and often used for special events and classes such as French conversation classes, scientific discussions and arts & craft demonstrations.


5. Really Rather Good, Bury St Edmunds

The Really Rather Good coffee house in Bury St Edmunds overlooking Angel Hill's town square serves up some of the best independent coffee the area has to offer.

Sit back and relax in the café's welcoming atmosphere whilst savouring a homemade cake or scone with your drink and watch the world go by - you can even take the dog.


6. Honey + Harvey, Woodbridge

Honey + Harvey is built around owner Harvey's passion for good food, good hospitality and a genuine love for tea and coffee. The coffee shop prides itself on serving the best artisan coffees and quality teas the area has to offer.

It's the perfect space to take a break, chat with friends or get a bit of work done in a stress-free environment away from the office. The food truly is spectacular, with the counter always being stacked high with a myriad of mouth-watering artisan breads, cakes, pastries and other goodies.


7. Hall Farm Café, Stratford St Mary

If you like to admire a good view as you sip your coffee, then the Dedham Vale vista from the courtyard seating at Hall Farm is the space for you.

The café was formerly an old cattle byre, but these days it is a relaxed spot for a morning coffee or a yummy afternoon cream tea. Take the weight off your feet, take in the stunning views and have fun watching the assortment of farm animals graze their way around their paddocks.


8. Wild Strawberry Cafe, Woodbridge

Located in the centre of picturesque Woodbridge along with some of the town's trendiest shops, the Wild Strawberry Café is a charming day-time hang.

Catering to those seeking gluten-free, vegan, and nut-free dishes wherever possible and offering a large selection of hearty breakfasts, this is the perfect place to wile away a morning with a wonderful flat white, espresso or Cappuccino.

Try to visit during the summer when a seat outside in the market square will be available. Nothing beats a nice cup of coffee in the morning sun.


9. Pump Street Bakery, Orford

Pump Street Bakery believe that community is central to their bakery which is why you'll sit round a communal table to enjoy your coffee. Their coffee is roasted by the hugely popular Monmouth in London which lives up to its glowing reputation for being one of the best coffee's going.

The bread and pastries are lovingly baked in-house each day filling the space with that glorious, fresh baked bread aroma - you can even attend a class to hone your sourdough baking skills.


10. The Alex, Felixstowe

Enjoy a morning coffee and wake yourself up properly with that brisk English sea air. The Alex is a chilled-out café bar where, even in winter, you can sit and savour a drink overlooking the sea on the heated outdoor balcony area.

Check out the 'sweet things' section of their menu for something yummy to accompany your freshly-brewed coffee or pick something from their extensive all-day menu and enjoy a casual brunch with friends or family.


11) Pickwicks, Ipswich

Heralded as possibly the oldest Coffee House in Ipswich, Pickwick's is housed in a 15th-century building thought to have once been the office of Thomas Wolsey's secretary. The Art Nouveau exterior leads through into a charming setting where you can indulge in a tasty cup of coffee, and when the weather is nice the courtyard is a delightful space to unwind.
