Editor Richard Young says we’re still printing and #ThereWithYou plus take advantage of our best ever subscription offer!
Firstly, I hope you and yours are all well.
Like most of us, I think I’m over the initial shock of this new world we’re suddenly living in. The anxiety has gone, replaced with acceptance. But perhaps the overriding feeling is a spirit of camaraderie the like of which perhaps none of us have ever felt before. We are living through a globally shared experience, played out on every street.
It’s certainly been emotional. Such a simple thing, clapping from the doorstep for the NHS, and hearing that swell to cheers and horns, brought a lump to the throat. Children’s rainbow posters in windows, people checking in on one another. Staying in. Small things with a collective power.
Although of course staying in is not such a small thing. It’s not easy for us to be separated from loved ones and friends. Not easy to have our freedom of movement curtailed. To not be working. The lockdown is incredibly tough on businesses, including this magazine. We are, however, still printing and going out to every subscriber and into those usual retail outlets still open. We think it’s important that, while making a not insignificant loss, we continue to do what we can both in print and online and through social media to support the community and Hertfordshire businesses.
This month’s issue is a little bit thinner than normal. Understandably, many local businesses have decided that this month they need to cut back on advertising. That doesn’t mean we’ve cut back on editorial, however. There are still 98 pages to enjoy – perhaps out in the garden with a gin and tonic. I hope you find inspiration here for these strange times, a bit of escapism, and plenty to keep your spirits up.
If you’re not a subscriber already, do see the offer below - our best ever - and find out how this could benefit you and indeed us and the businesses, charities and community work we support each month.
