A design inspired by a Gloucestershire garden has won gold Best in Show and Best Construction at the Royal Horticultural Society Chatsworth Flower Show.

Jamie Butterworth used a journal about the Kingscote garden of John Wedgwood, the founder of the RHS, as the basis for The Wedgwood Garden, which was built by Keyscape Design in Pershore.

The journal, still showing mud marks, is now kept in the RHS Linley Library. It details the plants John Wedgwood grew in Kingscote, detailing both success and failures.

"It's like a gardener talking to a gardener," says Jamie.

John Wedgwood, was the son of Josiah who founded the famous porcelain firm, and the planting echoes Wedgwood's Jasperware with a mix of blue, green and deep crimson.

At the centre of the garden is a large oak table, giving a space to relax with friends and family. The table was made by Mark Everleigh, from Worcestershire, himself a winner of Best in Show at the RHS Malvern Spring Festival.

"I wanted people to share food in the garden, share stores and make memories," explains Jamie, who is making his show garden debut at Chatsworth.

After the show, the garden will be relocated to Stoke-on-Trent.

Also flying the Cotswolds flag at the Derbyshire show, is Tetbury-based designer Paul Hervey-Brookes.

Paul who won gold at RHS Chelsea last month, has created a feature garden for Brewin Dolphin that is designed to be an artists' retreat.

Many of the plants are used in art, such as inspiration for botanical drawing or in dyeing cloth, and there are artists working in the garden throughout the show.
