Alison Reuben, of Bluebell Fitted Furniture in Sale, has a single-minded focus on delivering the highest levels of design, quality and service you could wish for and it’s resulted in a win-win for her business and her lucky customers
Runner-up in the Altrincham & Sale Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year Awards, winner of The Vauth-Sagal Award (for their design excellence) and proposed by their local branch of Lloyds Bank for the National Business Awards UK 2016, Bluebell Fitted Furniture are no stranger to plaudits, yet this formal recognition of their work is not what drives them. Their raison d’etre is quite simple – creating beautiful rooms in their clients’ homes, again and again.
Alison explains: ‘I started my working life as a principal dancer with world-famous Bluebell Girls, in Paris. The work-ethic instilled in me, along with a love of elegance, quality and precision, is the foundation of everything we do at Bluebell.’
Precision is a key term here. Bluebell make bespoke furniture for bedrooms, kitchens, studies, media rooms…every room. The term ‘bespoke’ is over-used by the fitted furniture industry, with many businesses applying it to standard-sized ‘kits’ that are then fitted into homes using extra bits and pieces to create a uniform feel. What Bluebell do is the dictionary definition of bespoke.
‘We design, make and fit exactly to our clients’ requirements. As well as working directly with homeowners, we work closely with several interior designers, who provide us with drawings of what they want. We then create the pieces and fit them – utterly bespoke and infinitely precise. We do a lot of work with Lana Filippova at Art of Interiors in Hale, who creates fabulous, highly contemporary and dramatic room designs and Yvonne Waite, of Y Waite interiors in Knutsford, whose stunning portfolio is very varied, from fabulous traditional listed halls to luxurious, high end contemporary homes.’
Bluebell’s work is so unique that to date they have struggled to show potential customers just how they can transform their homes: ‘I want people to walk into our showroom and say, “nobody else can do this.” So we’ve taken a bold step and are creating what is, in effect, a show home, showcasing our work.’
To do this Bluebell are extending their showroom and have created individual rooms and furnished them to show their design expertise and fitting excellence.

‘We’ve created a bedroom with walk-through dressing room, shortly to be followed by a hand-painted in-frame kitchen, a media-room with bar (something we’re increasingly asked for) and a gentleman’s study. It will be complete later this summer – and I can’t wait to reveal it!’
It is Alison’s aim that the Bluebell service is outstanding, from first conversation to the final finishing touch. In pursuit of this, the process each one follows is quite fabulous.
‘We use CAD design software which allows our designers to create a 3D design - a virtual reality tour of the space we’re working on,’ she says. ‘We create the design after our first briefing session. Then the customer can see it and ‘walk’ around it. With a couple of clicks they can change elements of the design to achieve their perfect format. We then take them around the showroom, showing finishes and paint colours, which are then applied to their drawings. We can even add in carpet and curtain colours, to help them visualise the finished space. You can see their excitement building as we work.
‘When I walk into a client’s home and see our completed project – and the look of delight on our clients’ faces – well, that’s what it’s all about for me.’
