Carol runs Carol's Places, a luxury holiday accommodation company which invites guests from up and down the UK. 'I wanted to complement the rooms with gorgeous fragrances, but just couldn't find what I wanted…so I made them!' she says. Carol now hand pours candles from her own kitchen, with her beautiful range flying off her shelves. She tells us about her collection, and offers tips for adding stunning scents to your own home.

Your candle range is pretty - is it good for the environment as well?

It is! The glass I use for the jars is all recyclable and upcycled - and I encourage customers to bring back their jars and bottles, where possible. The candles and sprays are still made by hand in my Yorkshire kitchen and we use the finest oils, soy wax and eco cotton wicks.

How much does scent play a part in the way we style our homes?

I am a firm believer that your home reflects your personality, and with that, you can enhance your home by adding your own scent wherever you like.

Which of your scents do you use - and which rooms would you recommend them for?

I like to have different scents in my bathrooms, like our Aura fragrance, which is like fresh linen on a washing line. I also leave a diffuser in the bathrooms and spray my towels and bedding with our room sprays before guests arrive.

Is it true that scents can be good for warding off midges in the garden?

Absolutely! I use our Lime and Mandarin or Acini for garden rooms, conservatory, or even outside, as they are a great deterrent to midges and wasps. I even took the spray and votive candles on holiday with me this year and they saved me from being eaten alive in a rented log cabin in Maine, USA.

Flowers can get expensive if bought all the time. What do you recommend?

If you want to scent your home all year with roses, try our Rose and Oud for a more economical way to get the feel of fresh flowers!

Where else, other than the home, can I use your fragrances?

My linen sprays are designed to be used on the body, too, so you can throw one in your handbag and spritz throughout the day. I love our Sakura scent; it's a mixture of oriental spices, so it's not too feminine. It's loved by both sexes, hence my son and hubby use the room/body spray for their travel and gym bags.

Which is your best-selling fragrance?

Rose and Oud, like an English summer garden all year round! u
