With more than 30 years trading as Devon Bed Centre, we profile the successful launch of the new Christies Furniture store in Exeter
At Devon Life we love to celebrate a business success story, so we were delighted to discover the new Christies Furniture store which has opened in Exeter.
Of course we already knew the company – it’s been more than 30 years since the renowned Devon Bed Centre first opened its doors on Grace Road West in Marsh Barton.
That business has proved really successful, and is now the largest, longest established independent bed centre in Devon. The company then moved into Cornwall, opening the Christies Furniture store in Penryn in 2010. This has also proved to be a huge success and is now one of the largest furniture stores in the south west of England.
Now the good news for Devon shoppers is that a new Christies Furniture store has opened in Exeter – and it’s just a couple of doors down the road from the Devon Bed Centre where it all began in 1985.
Owner Peter Blell told us: “An opportunity arrived for us to open up just two doors down from our longest established store, the Devon Bed Centre.
“We couldn’t resist the challenge of opening a huge new furniture store in our home town and showcasing our unique ranges of designer furniture.
“Our customers are now able to shop for beds and bedroom furniture within the Devon Bed Centre and then simply pop two doors down to Christies Furniture where they will find everything else from sofas, dining and living room furniture to our unique selection of accessories”.
The new Marsh Barton showroom is more than the average furniture store. It’s packed full of inspiration and great offerings to fully furnish an entire room.
On top of that, there’s a vast display of accessories, all beautifully displayed in room settings, and all at low prices with the added option that everything is available with Interest Free Credit (subject to status of course).
We definitely think it’s one of the best furniture stores that we have visited and certainly recommend paying them a visit. Christie’s Furniture provides a great shopping experience and their products ooze class!
So why has Christies Furniture been so successful?
Peter explains: “Well first things first, we try to offer a first class service. We are always grateful to any of our customers for shopping with us so therefore nothing will ever be too much trouble for us.
“Since opening all the way back in 1985 we’ve built up tremendous relationships with some of the most recognisable furniture manufacturers in the UK, but in addition to this we also stock furniture from some of the great smaller up and coming manufacturers.
“I suppose over the years we’ve become pretty good at selecting high quality, well designed furniture that always represents great value. Also, we are one of the only furniture stores where as an example you can come in for a luxury sofa but also see it displayed in a room setting together with other matching living room furniture as well as stunning matching accessories including ornaments, pictures and rugs.
“Other places perhaps offer something similar but not to the same level. Given our low prices, essentially you can get that complete designer look for an affordable price.”
