Stroll around the Frank Knighton furniture store in Ilkeston at the moment and you might just be forgiven for thinking you had stumbled onto the set of Mad Men… A slight exaggeration, of course, but you’ll see what we mean when you visit the store’s new display of G Plan Vintage furniture.

In collaboration with Hemingway Design, G Plan created G Plan Vintage, a stunning range of furniture inspired by classic sofas and chairs of the 50s and 60s. It’s a collection that embraces the quality and craftsmanship of G Plan, along with Hemingway’s fresh and vibrant approach to vintage projects.

With an outstanding design pedigree and as experts in all things vintage, Hemingway’s unique take on these stylish designs has created a range of furniture – and some very funky cushions – that draw admiring glances.

Wayne Hemingway believes that ‘Vintage design can be considered classic, ie. timeless – the vintage fashion, music, furniture and architecture has all proven to stand the test of time. It also appeals to multiple generations, so you can share the love for this style with all of your family.’

Each item in the G Plan Vintage collection is named after the year in which its design was inspired – from 1953 to 1967. Everything is British-made in Melksham, Wiltshire, as part of a 21-stage design and development programme. The sofas, armchairs and footstools are cleverly designed, with the versatility to be a statement piece or simply an accent point.

As a local family furniture retailer, Frank Knighton are proud to be the leading Derbyshire stockist of this retro range. ‘G Plan Vintage is a small collection and they’ve kept things simple, as they were first time around,’ reveals Alan Young, responsible for sales and service at Frank Knighton. ‘The designs are already selling quickly here at our Ilkeston branch.’

You can choose from a range of fabrics, all in keeping with the vintage look, and upholstery can be selected from a book of 16 swatches with tactile earthy shades such as turquoise, purple or charcoal.

‘They don’t just have good looks but are comfortable too,’ continues Alan. ‘G Plan has always achieved both.’
