3 antiques gems to discover in Surrey

Passionate about antiques and always on the look-out for new haunts to check out? If the answer is yes, then I am sure you will adore these three gems on my ‘ones to watch’ list this season.
With Christmas approaching, these gorgeous Surrey businesses are certainly perfect places for picking up gift ideas too.
First up, Nest Home and Café in Ripley is owned by Deborah Holden, a former homeware buyer for Ralph Lauren. The shop is a fabulous destination visit, combining a decadent café experience with a multitude of antique and interior treasures. Though not solely about antiques, Nest offers a gorgeous lifestyle store experience and, with Deborah’s keen eye for antiques, the unexpected finds will keep enticing you back. Passionate about vintage fabrics and trims, Nest also has a stunning collection of unique cushions that are made up as one-off exclusive designs, using beautiful textiles with a rich aged patina. This is one not to miss!
Then, over in Bramley, there’s Memories Antiques, which has been run by its delightful owner, Wendy Camfield, for the past 39 years. Her bijou shop is a Pandora’s Box of things waiting to be discovered and stock changes quickly. Over the years, Wendy has evolved her style to meet current trends and has always remained true to providing genuine antiques for her customers – no poor reproduction copies to be found here. The shop also offers a Wish List service for Christmas, birthdays and weddings and a free search service for those looking for particular antiques. The personal approach and high levels of customer service give the store an extra-desirable quality and, for those in the know, it’s a source for many fabulous pieces.
The last of my well-kept secrets is Guildford-based online company Sassy Hardwick (sassyhardwick.co.uk). Founded and owned by designer Sarah Payne, her business has been quietly working away in the background for the past two years, whilst hand-painted finishes and designs have been perfected. Efforts have paid off and, with a sudden surge of interest on both sides of the Atlantic, the business is launching officially this month and looks set to make its mark on the world of antiques and interiors.
Her strapline is ‘furniture with attitude’ and design fashionados are in for a real treat. Think original vintage pieces restored to their former glory, then treated to a total makeover with decadent hand-painted contemporary finishes and stunning hardware. Painted in dark, seductive paint colours and finished with burnished copper, gold leaf and leather, Sarah transforms antique pieces with a distinctive and confident edge.
If you are looking for antiques with a twist then her covetable cocktail cabinets, sideboards, wardrobes, dressing tables and desks will certainly make a striking addition to your home this season. Or if looking for something specific, you can commission her to create a bespoke design from a vintage find.
