More than 500 guests at the Bollywood Ball at Harrogate Ladies College, organised by the Acorn Committee, gave a record 47,500 during the evening.

The Acorn Committee, now 11 years old, has so far raised 600,000 to help people with dementia and their carers in Harrogate and Ripon. Money raised also goes towards research into scleroderma disease at Leeds General Infirmary.

‘In these difficult times we never expected to reach our highest ever total for a ball,’ said Louise Hanen, who founded the Acorn Committee. ‘The generosity of our supporters, many of whom have been involved with Acorn since its early days, is truly remarkable and we are so grateful to everyone who donated auction lots and prizes, helped us with the organisation of the ball and attended on the night.’
