Embrace the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness in style at Petworth Park this autumn.

The National Trust historic landscape will play host to an outdoor fun day, ‘Spot the Spaniel’, on Sunday 28 September, 11am – 4pm. Entry is free. The event celebrates the property’s longstanding affinity for this noble breed, as well as a love for the great British outdoors.

Dog owners are invited to bring along their four-legged friends to join in with the have-a-go activities, canine competitions and doggy demonstrations. Spectators will also enjoy the ‘Fun Dog Show’, with classes for all dogs from perky pure breeds to happy hounds.

Outdoor enthusiasts will similarly enjoy browsing the range of fabulous local food and shopping stalls at the event. Highlights include Paws Deli, a small New Forest business producing the very best deli pet treats (www.pawsdeli.co.uk); Waggy Wardrobe, with practical dog clothes and doggy-dress-up for all breeds and size of dog (www.waggywardrobe.co.uk); and Greenheart Sussex, makers of wellington boot stacks, offering a range of designs and solutions to help you organise your welly boots at home (www.greenheartsussex.com).

Also taking place at the family fun day is the ‘Big Petworth Park Dog Walk’, in support of local charity, Canine Partners (www.caninepartners.org.uk). Holly Bryan, Events and Challenges Coordinator at Canine Partners comments,

“We are delighted our Big Dog Walk is taking place in the wonderful surroundings of Petworth Park. We have organised a number of events there previously and the team are great to work with, so we are always pleased to come back. This will be a wonderful day out for dog lovers, at the same time as raising awareness of the work we do in training dogs to change the lives of people with disabilities.”

The 5k walk, run or jog begins in the park at 10.30am and further information and sponsorship forms can be found at www.caninepartners.org.uk/events/bigdogwalk.
