Rescued pony the size of a German Shepherd is horse charity’s smallest yet
A rescued miniature Shetland pony called Sir Didymus, known affectionately as ‘Diddy’, is the smallest addition to horse charity, the Mare and Foal Sanctuary, since it began 28 years ago. Standing at 6.1 hands high, equivalent to 25 inches or 63.5cm, this sweet Shetland has a cheeky character which surpasses his lack of height!
Diddy was found abandoned, neglected and underweight, along with his companion Ludo in South Wales and was rescued by staff at the charity earlier this year. The ponies have made good progress since arriving at the Sanctuary and have moved from rehabilitation to the Visitor Centre where the general public can come and view them.
Head Groom Carly Cavaliere explains: “Didymus has come a long way since arriving to us earlier this year. He may be small but he can stick up for himself. He’s a sweet boy and everyone has fallen in love with him.
“Diddy and Ludo are such popular and charismatic ponies that we wanted everyone to be able to meet them. Our Visitor Centre is free to visit, and we’re holding our annual open day on Sunday 7th August which is packed full of displays and demonstrations by our ponies and grooms - lots of stalls and games and is always great fun. It’s the perfect time to come and see Diddy and Ludo and find out why we all love them so much.”
