Derbyshire Women's Club 80th Anniversary celebratory luncheon.

Derby Women's Luncheon Club first met in 1930 at the St James's Restaurant in St James's Street, Derby. At first debating was an element of the meetings but by 1937 members had decided on ‘entertainment rather than instruction’. This is a tradition still kept – members have recently been ‘entertained with art’ by Beryl Maile and listened to Prue Leith’s tales of life in and out of the kitchen. Am 80th anniversary celebratory luncheon took place at Makeney Hall Hotel on 11th May and entertainment was provided by David Penn, a national award winning magician. David was welcomed by the president, Penelope Mahy, the chairman Pam Marshall and introduced by assistant chairman and speaker organiser Joy Cotton, who also gave a vote of thanks.

Throughout the years meetings have been held at various venues, including the Merchant Hall, the Assembly Rooms and currently Pride Park, Derby. The forthcoming season will include talks by Colin Dexter, ‘Morse and I’, and Clarissa Dixon Wright.
