Watford Mencap’s Diamond Jubilee Ball, held at the Watford Hilton on January 29, brought together 240 guests to raise money for the charity’s Children’s Centre. After a sparking wine reception accompanied by a clarinet quartet from Watford Grammar School for Boys, guests enjoyed a three-course meal followed by an auction. There was also dancing to live band Grand Central plus a casino and silent auction. Watford Mencap staff, people who use Watford Mencap services and parents and carers of people with a learning disability joined corporate supporters and local well-wishers at the ball which included watching a short film, sponsored by Rickmansworth-based VocaLink, about the Centre. Founded in 1951, Watford Mencap is an independent local charity receiving no funding from national Mencap. It needs to raise all its funds locally to support 500 people with a learning disability across South West Herts.
