Eastbourne’s picturesque marina was the setting for a 5km sponsored walk organised by the Rotary Club of Sovereign Harbour in aid of Help for Heroes, the charity founded in 2007 to support members of the Armed Forces injured on active service. Adam Cocks, a soldier wounded in Afghanistan, signalled the start of the walk while Club President Don Perman strode out to lead men, women and children on a gentle, meandering stroll around the harbour. Heroes all in the heat were joined by Malcolm Forse, who bravely marched the route in his American Civil War uniform, flag in hand, on the warmest day of the year so far.The troops were welcomed on their return by the Mayor of Eastbourne, Carolyn Heaps, who praised their efforts in raising 3,000 and pledged her support to “the brave men and women, who fight for our country – they and their families must never be forgotten.”
