Featuring more than 60 local food and drink producers, the Somerset Life Family Cook School and Zara Emily's awesome screen printing workshops this a great, free day out.

Organiser Sarah Milner Simonds tells us: "Weston balances on that happy medium between city and sea - half an hour to city culture and five minutes to the great wild outdoors! It's not by accident that Bristol was voted The Guardian's Top Vegan City in the world - it is based in some of the most productive farmland in the country. All around us and on our doorstep are award-winning farmers, growers, winemakers and artisans making the freshest flavours.

"eat:Festivals is all about the place we live in. Roots. For those who've chosen a more ethical life, a lighter footprint also means fewer food-miles, no more middlemen, it's about meeting the makers and buying direct.

"You'll find here some of the best and bravest makers in the South West!

"Sure, we all enjoy a junk food blow-out but just 'cos it's quick and dirty doesn't mean it has to burn a hole in the ozone layer too.

"With vegan food becoming more and more popular, so much of what we are being sold is highly processed, cheap fillers, with groovy branding but shady beginnings.

"If you want to see through the marketing smog, talk to these makers, get to know your local culture, and get stuck in. These are awesome food producers whose food just happens to be vegan."

Weston-super-Mare is a plastic-free town, with miles of coast and the most beautiful surrounding farmland to explore. There's nothing stopping us filling our kitchens with fresh and wild food all year round. And if you really want to get to the root of good food, join us on some Westcountry Food Adventures in June, July and August, with farm tours, special menus and meet the maker events all over Somerset and Avon."

eat:Vegan will be held on 2 February.
